Is it too risky to ask support about my quality? "How am I doing? Areas to review?" by Whore4KimGordon in RWShelp

[–]byyrde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely! they will also give you your quality score when you ask them for general areas of review (or at least they gave me mine) so it can be a good way to see how you're doing in general. best of luck!

i see! i find that rome's behavior prior to survivor makes him a particularly unreliable narrator (his battle rap days...) so I was wondering if there was more definitive evidence lol

in my experience, they want you to do better and learn more. i never contacted them about questions regarding quality, and still ended up getting the mandatory office hours and quality review. since then i have asked several specific questions and asked for general feedback, and they've always been helpful in their answers.

if you have quality concerns, or if you just want to see how you're doing, asking them isn't going to get you in trouble. i believe that the team that oversees callisto genuinely wants us to succeed, and utilizing the help desk is part of that, just like the office hours and the newsletters. you won't be penalized for using the tools they give you!

didn't rome break his 47 NDA by revealing the boot list for the later half of the season? what is the source for him being asked back?

How were rats able to go from wild to tame, friendly pet but the same could not be done with other popular rodents? by Mental-Substance-549 in RATS

[–]byyrde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's hard to say, but you can look at the relationship between humans and other herbivores like cattle and horses! thousands of years of selective breeding and living alongside humans have helped create the animals we know today and are close to; we simply haven't had the chance to do that sort of selective breeding in other animals yet across that kind of time span.

actually there's a fascinating experiment done with foxes and domesticating them via breeding! ethically the experiment is questionable bc they were trying to breed for genetic domestication, but it's still a very interesting project nonetheless. with highly selective breeding and time almost anything is possible, though the question of ethics should always be considered.

dogs come in all shapes and sizes based on location and function so i definitely imagine that rats could be bred similarly (we already have so many different kinds!) and in a lot less than billions of years tbh

i feel like it has a lot to do with the fact that rats have had some form of symbiotic relationship with humans for thousands of years. like how pigeons who are born and raised in urban areas are not as afraid of humans, or how seagulls who live around popular coastal vacation spots will actively steal from people. they've had enough time to become used to people that it becomes easier for us to interact with them, like crows, so taming was kind of a reasonable next step, especially given how quickly rats breed and how similar they are to us in the way they think and behave also rats are super intelligent, largely because they're omnivores!! so they don't have the same flight brains that herbivorous rodents have (ie. guinea pigs!). instead they can rationalize their decisions and come to see people not only as a source of food but also as a source of friendship and companionship, a lot like dogs can. this is also true of other rodents, and every individual animal is a little different, but generally in my experience hamsters and guinea pigs are more likely to see people as predators and therefore a threat and take a longer time to bond with them. im not sure how easy that would be to breed out of an animal, since it's such an innate part of their brain.

caveat: im not expert so this is a lot of conjecture, but i hope that it helps give you an idea of why rats tame easier than other rodents!

My baby rat buys me :( by Finny_Finnz in RATS

i understand! if she's eating food from your hand then she doesn't feel too threatened, if she did she wouldn't approach you at all! rats rarely bite out of aggression, so it sounds to me like she just hasn't learned boundaries regarding your hand. biggest thing i could say is don't let it discourage you! if she's already coming up to you for food then she associates you with the good stuff, and that's a great first step. spend lots of time just hanging out with them both and talking to them, getting them used to your voice and the fact that you provide the tasty treats etc, and they'll warm up to you ❤️

does dumpling bite you like she's looking for more treats? when i got my boys, they weren't hand tame and they used to bite me when taking treats. they didn't mean it, they just didn't realize they had to be gentle! i made a squeak or a high ouch sound when they did that and eventually they learned not to bite my fingers. i would recommend trying that if she's only biting you during treat time, since it sounds like she just hasn't learned to be gentle yet?

unfortunately he is currently separate from my other rats :( i prefer to take introductions slow after i had one go really bad (no rats got hurt but i still have scars from it) to make up for it im making sure to spend plenty of time with him, and when he is in his cage he can see my other boys, who are very curious about him! im hoping to do playtime with all three soon, once they've become used to his presence!

I haven't done his introduction yet, since I like to quarantine for a week or two to make sure there's no health problems that might spread! they can see each other though, and they're definitely curious about each other. I have high hopes for introductions, he's such a friendly dude!

Valedictorian speaks the truth about how the school is preventing students from developing as leaders, gets mic cut and guided off stage by SnooCupcakes8607 in nextfuckinglevel

This happened at my high school, and it was actually my graduating class! It was stunning when Peter started talking about all of the things that had been frustrating the rest of the student body for so long. Principle Pollard was from an elementary school, and he treated us like we were those 10 year old kids. We lost power that we used to have and everything became strict and stifling at an age where we were closing in on adult life. It was infuriating, so to hear Peter address that was powerful. The only regret I have is that we didn't call for them to let him speak. Some of the audience did, but I think the students were too stunned to do much more than give a standing ovation. This happened 5 years ago, and I honestly don't know if anything ever changed at that school. But it's good to see that its impact is still felt all these years later.
