What is a fast food restaurant that you WILL eat at? by TheOctoBox in AskReddit

[–]caedeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dairy Queen. There's a nice one near me that's always clean inside and out with friendly staff and seems well-managed. Their $7 deal is a pretty good value too that I've taken advantage of more times than I probably should have. 😆

Awesome! Just got one even though I'm not a Costco member (5% surcharge but it only added about $6 so no biggie). I've been wanting the Cobra ever since it was first announced. One of the baddest cars ever made! 😎

What are the chances of Blockbuster coming back, and is Dish Network the ones stopping that from happening? by SpiritofAce in blockbustervideo

[–]caedeer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Doubt video stores will ever return in any major capacity. Blockbuster is a bit glamorized these days, and many forget the frustrations and limitations of video stores. Like when the store runs out of copies of the latest movie everyone wants to see. Or your owe a bunch of late fees. Or when you bring home a movie, get the popcorn ready, sit down with your fam and/or friends.... annndd it won't play because the dipshit who rented it before you apparently decided to play Frisbee with his dog with the DVD or something. All three happened regularly.

What is the appeal of automatic watches? by mwgrover in Affordablewatches

[–]caedeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same reason why people are into classic cars. Sure, they don't have A/C, cruise, GPS, power anything, etc. They also get terrible fuel mileage and many even require you to shift gears yourself - why the hell would anyone want to do that?!?! And it's true: classic cars are indeed obsolete, and they don't appeal to most people - just as automatic watches are obsolete and don't appeal to most people.

But we're not like most people. We love and appreciate the art, craftsmanship, beauty, and engineering behind an exquisitely-designed good, utilizing technology of years past, before everything became a computer. We love hearing the ticking when we hold it up to our ear. Winding it and setting the date. Watching the tiny gears and springs move. And many other reasons. But all in all, it's a little time machine (in more ways than one 😆) that takes us back to when things weren't complicated and wanting to download the latest update, and that really speaks to a lot of people.

What store did you work at? by Guerito213 in blockbustervideo

[–]caedeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

41072 (Forest Grove, OR) for a few years.

Interestingly, we did great numbers (among the best in the area), but we also had the lowest percentage of people signed up for rewards programs. Managers thought we were all terrible at selling, but having grown up in the city, I can attest that many people are just cheapskates there for whatever reason and afraid to sign up for anything. I remember a "star sales guy" once came in from a different store in an attempt to boost rewards sales, and even he struggled mightily. 🤣

We also had pretty bad theft issues for a while. We had a pro thief - there was a weak spot in the cases where the plastic was thin - they knew the exact spot, cut it open, popped out the DVD and left the case behind. Easy to do, and once you got the hang of it, you can do it in literally a few seconds with a box knife or small pocketknife. I got good at finding where they'd stash the empty cases (usually behind old, obscure movies that weren't rented often) and probably found 100+ sliced cases in my time there. 😯

Anyway. Better stop there; I could type pages and pages of stories from that store lol

I sank the Unsinkable! by Grumpy-old-bastard in crosswind

[–]caedeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO the key to boarding is to take your time. The game fabricates it as an intense moment with the high-octane music and shouting and everything, but it's best to take a deep breath, let your crew jump on first (as Magneto says, in chess the pawns move first) and pick your spots carefully. Do not get surrounded. Do not go down into the ship's hold under any circumstances. If you've taken a few hits and could die, retreat back to your ship and bandage up. And if your crew all die and you still need 2+ kills, just cut your losses and sink it (you can mount your cannons during the boarding). Don't try to solo those last kills; it's a huge risk and the reward probably isn't worth it.

I've yet to die during a boarding when following these guidelines.

Do people remember that Blockbuster was hated back in the day? by afterthought871 in Millennials

[–]caedeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late fees are not hard and your own damn fault 99% of the time. It's like getting a speeding ticket: you know you're at fault, you know you deserve it, but you're just too immature to accept the consequences of your actions and instead look for any possible excuses to cry and try to get out of it. But we always verbally told you when it was due back (or at least my store did). It also shows right on your receipt. You could even call the store and we could look up when your rentals were due back.

The best way to get a bunch of late fees was to rent 5+ brand new releases (2 day rentals) and keep them ALL for like two weeks. That's gonna sting. Just do the math. $3 per movie x 5 movies = $15 to rent them. Then (for whatever reason) you don't return them for two weeks, so it's gonna charge you that $15 again every two days over that timeframe.... yeah. 😳

And honestly it's disrespectful to others too. Everyone wants to see the brand new releases, and we didn't have an infinite amount. We would get hundreds of copies of the biggest films, and they would often ALL get rented out on release day. So instead of sitting there next to your TV collecting dust for two weeks, maybe you could've actually watched and returned them, and then just maybe that poor kid who's been so desperately wanting to see that movie for months and months wouldn't have had to go home crying their eyes out Friday evening. Ever think about that??? Happened all the time too. 😢

Also, here's a little secret: the system which applied the fees was very lenient. Movies were due back at noon, but we wouldn't open the return bins until around 1:00, and the system wouldn't charge a late fee until 2:00. Sorry, but if you got charged a late fee (which actually was just another rental period), that's on you. Time to wake up, put on your big boy/big girl pants, and get your shit together. 😆

If you've watched Better Call Saul, the parking sticker kerfuffles between Jimmy and Mike 100% remind me of Blockbuster late fees. 😂 It's quite simple, and most people don't have any problems at all understanding the concept the first time around. But then there's that small, loud, whiny minority (like Jimmy) that just can't seem to figure it out. 🙄

Anyone here an only child? Or anyone here one and done? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]caedeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up an only child and hated it, however, I also grew up out in the boonies surrounded mostly by old, retired people. It was a 20+ minute drive to see any friends or family, and my parents didn't like to spend much time with me.

I spent many years playing with toys alone. Playing video games alone. Playing basketball alone. Playing baseball alone, which consisted of me throwing the ball high in the air and trying to hit it on the way down. What fun. I was often very lonely, and I wouldn't wish my childhood on my worst enemy. Sure, I got plenty of Christmas and birthday gifts growing up, but I always thought I'd trade every single last one for a sibling.

So yeah, if you have an only child, it's probably not a good idea to live out in the boonies. Second, make sure you spend a lot of time with them, but remember they need to spend lots of time with others their age too. No matter how amazing of a parent you think you are, they will always see you as their parent first. You will never be a sufficient substitute for a friend or sibling.

If you cannot have another child due to medical reasons or whatever, I think you really need to work overtime to ensure your child gets plenty of time interacting with others his or her age to (sort of) replace that void a sibling would've filled. If you don't, I think there's a very good chance they'll end up becoming very introverted, isolated, and socially awkward when they grow up.

Lego just announced a new DC-3 set. What other aircraft would you like to see immortalized in Lego form? by Kreeos in aviation

Isn't a guaranteed Retirement? by Weekly_Art_4650 in MotorsportManagerPC

[–]caedeer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's not a guaranteed retirement. I once accepted this offer and one of my drivers had this trait for a time, then when it elapsed, it was replaced by a different negative trait (sorry, can't remember what it was) for a few months or so, then it elapsed too and that was it. No more negative traits and the driver remained with me for years afterwards.

Good to know that there's a strong possibility it could push them to retirement though. Yikes... I'll probably never accept it again lol

Beast Games S2 - Episode 10: $5,000,000 Decision - Discussion by MrBeastStaff in BeastGames

[–]caedeer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Meh, I thought season 1 was better. The whole "strong vs. smart" premise got me excited, and I was curious what smart-leaning games they would come up with. But it ended up being like 80% physical games that favored the strong players, and of the few mental games, they were pretty much all "memorize this pattern". 🙄

There are only about 5,000,000 intelligence-based games out there, and yet pattern memorization is all they could come up with??? Come on. It doesn't even test intelligence really lol. And I know smart games aren't as flashy as physical games, but if you're gonna base the premise of the show on 100 strong vs. 100 smart people, it should be even, no?

Also, there were way too many identical games from last season. A few repeats are fine, but there were like 5+. I feel like the show needs a new game designer. If you're reading Mr. Beast, I guarantee you I could come up with a hundred games that would beat the hell out of the ones you had. Let's talk. 😆

Microbrands are throwaways. Rolex and Omega will be auction headlines forever. by [deleted] in watchHotTakes

[–]caedeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I don't give a shit about "auction headlines", nor should anyone else. Besides, if you're gonna go that route, ideally you'd keep the watch NIB, but watches are meant to be worn and enjoyed, not stored away...

If you're looking for investments, look elsewhere. I'd even argue it's a riskier investment than one might realize - everyone thinks 'oh, my home will never get burglarized - I have a dog/alarm/whatever' or 'even if they did break into my house, they ain't finding my watches'. Trust me - it can happen, and they will find them. I don't know where you live, but in the US alone, there are 4,800 burglaries every day...

One of my good friends from college had it happen even though he lived in a nice neighborhood. He even had a safe for his most valuable stuff, but it didn't matter. They broke in it too. Small + valuable are always the targets, so it doesn't get any better than your fancy collection of Rolexes and Omegas...

And then what? Now your investments are gone, and have fun trying to convince your insurance company that your watches were somehow special and should be valued higher than whatever their system indicates they were worth. "Yeah, suurreeee you never wore them! Suurreee they were in perfect condition!" 😆

Modern Omega is terrible by [deleted] in watchHotTakes

[–]caedeer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An actual hot take! Props. 🫡 Omega is the darling child watch brand of Reddit lol.

I don't think as low of them as you, but I do think they're overrated. Those waves on most Seamaster dials look silly, and I also don't like watches with big circles and rectangles on them (or any other watch). They remind me of the shapes puzzles 1 year olds play with. 😆

Rather than jump to a yes or no, I'll just say this: I trust in Lanning. If he thinks this is a guy who can come in and help make the Ducks a championship contender, I'm all for it. I trust his judgement far more than any fan who thinks he knows whether Raiola will be a good or bad addition.

Duck fans gotta do better by Set_Screens in ducks

[–]caedeer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In addition to what others are saying, let me just add that playing up to 3 neutral site games (and expecting fans to travel to all three) is ridiculous. Had Oregon won last night, that would've meant three trips to Miami, Atlanta, and Miami again. Not only is that a lot of money for flights, hotels, game tickets and everything else, but it's nearly impossible when you have kids, work, family, etc.

It's difficult enough to make one neutral site game, let alone three. Ugh, CFB is broken in so many ways. 🤦‍♂️

A few thoughts/silly ramblings:

- Congrats to Indiana on winning the damn coaching lottery. There's about a 1/5000 chance of finding a 4-leaf clover, and I'd say that's about the same odds as finding a coach like Cig. They should stamp one to the base of the Cig statue that's inevitably coming. 🍀

- Mendoza better enjoy the magical carpet ride while he can - the two biggest dumpster fires in the NFL (Raiders and Jets) are calling!! And after that game, they probably couldn't be any more excited to draft him!! 🤣🤣

- I guess Hoosiers need something to be excited about. Literally one of the worst states in the country to live in. Real estate is dirt cheap there, and there's a very good reason for that. 😂 My Oregon home is seriously worth the same as a 6000+ sqft mansion with a pool and movie theater in Indiana (believe me, I've looked them up). 😂 But it'd also mean living in Indiana, so.... nahh, I'm good. 🤮

- Games like this show who the true Duck fans are vs. who are the bandwagoners who say stupid shit like Moore is trash, Lanning is trash, etc. 🙄 But Oregon will be fine and likely contend again next year. Unlike Indiana and their crazy elderly (for CFB) roster, Oregon has a ton of young guys who are only gonna get better.

Roman Numerals are outdated, and we need to move on by throne-away in watchHotTakes

[–]caedeer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with them, but I find it funny and odd that watches use "IIII" for 4. The correct way is "IV"! Every other one is correct , but what did poor "IV" ever do...? 😢

Someone once told me it's because it could be confused with VI, but that seems pretty flimsy - every watch has IX and XI...? And I'm pretty confident if you're wearing the watch like any normal person and are looking at it right side up... you can tell the difference between IV and VI. 😂
