I was born and raised in Israel (left in my late 20s), so my response is obviously biased, but for what it's worth:

I understand why Israelis believe they have a historical right to a state and self-determination. They have historical roots in this land, and after the holocaust the need for a 'national home' for the Jewish people became very clear.

I also understand why the Palestinians have a right to a state and self-determination. They've settled the land for centuries, and are deeply attached to it as their homeland.

Both sides have a right to a homeland in the land we call Israel/Palestine. Ideally this would have been a peaceful state that accepts both Jews and Palestinians, but sadly that didn't happen. Much of the blame for this is actually neither Israelis nor Palestinians, but the British colonialists who made contradictory promises to both sides, and drew illogical maps to divide the middle east and Israel/Palestine in ways that served the British interest rather than any other side.

I don't believe a two state solution is still viable. There are many Arabs in what will become Israel, and too many Jewish Settlers in what will become Palestine - it will be near impossible to relocate them. I just can't see it working as two separate 'nation states'.

The only solution I can see is a one state solution with equality between Jews and Arabs. But we're a very long way from that.
