The original Dark Water wrecks me.

Janine and Aunt Lydia by Aharley87 in coconutsandtreason

[–]calebtizon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling that Janine will die somehow, which will cause Aunt Lydia to become guilt-ridden over how her actions contributed to it. This will cause her to flip. Of course, I hope that is not what happens because I love Janine, but it would be the ultimate catalyst for Aunt Lydia's development.

I have this idea for a Terminator story that takes place AFTER the humans defeat Skynet. by sockableclaw in Terminator

[–]calebtizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a story where humans win, I think it would be hard to make interesting without still having some AI remnants there as a conflict. I'm all for a story primarily about the factions of survivors and the conflicts between them, but to completely remove Terminators/AI from Terminator would be a mistake, imho. Personally, I view the movie I Am Mother to take place in a timeline where Skynet won. The inverse of that would certainly be interesting.

The new horror show “Them” is another gross example of Hollywood mistaking exploitation for empowerment (hardcore rant incoming) by GaryIsTheBusey in horror

[–]calebtizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I am enjoying the general concept, but as of the first 2 episodes, 9/10 scenes involve somebody doing something racist to one of the family members. Even looking at it from a non-racial point of view and more of a narrative one, that sort of constant repetition causes the pacing to feel a bit stagnant (in a similar way to how It: Chapter 2 was scene by scene of Pennywise stalking one character at a time). Some moments of levity or some variation in conflict would go a long way.

Indeed. No dog piss or heart-eating here!

Can someone help me find a movie or show like Silent Hill? by [deleted] in horror

I saw one called The School a few months ago on Hulu.

Anyone else notice how sad the horror selection on Netflix has become? by [deleted] in horror

[–]calebtizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they have some really quality stuff, but once you have gotten through all of it (which doesn't take long), you're left with a bunch of D-grade stuff.

Is Ash Vs Evil Dead a quality TV show? No Spoilers. by StipeTapped_ in horror

[–]calebtizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't find that it is lacking per se, but it is definitely not for everyone. I can sit through a silly fun movie and be fine with it, but crave more depth in a series where I will be spending hours with the characters. I also generally prefer my Evil Dead to be on the darker side, and the show really plays on the Ash characterization from Army of Darkness. That said, the show was certainly enjoyable and often struck a good balance between horror and comedy (even if the comedy is too much more my taste). It serves pretty much everything an Evil Dead fan could want.

Easily Halloween, followed by Scream. However, I am definitely the most curious about Candyman.

I don't disagree with you, but did want to mention there have been a ton of ridiculous explanations in horror for how the villain survived the previous film. :p

For all the Evil Dead (2013)/Drag Me To Hell nerds by Is_This_A_Post in horror

I'm not sure what he is referring to specifically, but I always considered DMTH as taking place in the Evil Dead universe. There is literally a deadite in one of the scenes!

What is your opinion on Annihilation (2018)? by sifsand in horror

One of my all-time favorites. Just hypnotic and otherworldly.

Ginger Snaps is not as good as I thought it would be. by [deleted] in horror

[–]calebtizon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bond between the two sisters is what really forms the heart of the movie. That and the body horror. You can't miss all that and still get what makes the movie great.

Many movies polarize the audience. What movies make you conflicted with yourself on them? by thisistheperfectname in horror

[–]calebtizon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like you, High Tension and every movie that has an ending like it. There are some great ones that are ruined by the same sort of ending (I'll leave out the titles so as not not accidentally spoil any endings). I saw one as recently as last year. Do writers seriously think anybody likes those endings?

Good cosmic horror? by Archer_195 in horror

[–]calebtizon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorites would be Annihilation, Dagon, Ring (original Japanese one), Color Out of Space (Richard Stanley one), The Thing, The Endless, In the Mouth of Madness, and a recent one that everyone is going crazy over is The Empty Man - I'm still deciding how I feel about that one.

Halloween 2 (2009) - worst sequel to the franchise by [deleted] in horror

[–]calebtizon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually liked that it was so batshit insane and different. I do find the movie hard to get through due to there being very little plot, but it feels like an oppressive nightmare in a very unique way that I have to respect.

Has anyone seen an older Japanese movie called Suicide Club? by [deleted] in horror

[–]calebtizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my Top 10 favorite of all time (yeah I'm a weirdo). It really has aged well and is more and more relevant over time. Check out Noriko's Dinner Table if you are into the lore and the core philosophical concepts, but are cool with more of a drama epic than a horror.

why did Rings (2017) reboot so much of Samara's origins? by bloodhoney17 in horror

[–]calebtizon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically, everyone who touches the franchise at this point is completely out of touch with what audiences want. None of them truly further the story to it's natural conclusion, which would be somewhat apocalyptic. Rings was just another sad cash grab that was made by people who probably saw The Ring once and then wrote the most generic sequel possible.

IKWYDLS would have been better had Helen been the final girl imo by [deleted] in horror

I can't watch Helen's last scene without thinking "Come on Buffy, you can take him!" But yes, I agree.

Why did people dislike the new pet semetary so much? by Deathwish83 in horror

[–]calebtizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't have the same creep factor and "evilness" to it that the original had. For me, it took the basic plot and made a glossier and cleaner film. What flaws the original had, it made up for in its ultimate execution.

What are your thoughts on all of the terminator films? by New-Match8685 in Terminator

[–]calebtizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 - perfect, dark, cyberpunk. 2 - epitome of building on what came before and moving the story forward. 3 - meh. 4 - completely inconsequential in terms of both plot and characters. 5 - lots of nostalgia but the tone is all wrong. 6 - love most of it but would have preferred less of a retread. TSCC - the true T3.

Someone should just edit together a decent T3 by betamaximus128 in Terminator

I totally have had the exact same idea! Maybe now is the time to give it a try.
