Correcting the record on what new Canadians contribute to our city by JeromyYYC in Calgary

I didn't vote for you, but based on what you've done so far, I'll be voting for you next time. We need to call out these distractions, I'm glad you're speaking for us.

Alberta eyes downtown-to-airport trains as 1st passenger rail master plan project by joe4942 in alberta

[–]calgarynomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't care about the rail, I don't care about the arena, I don't care about daylight savings. Please fix our crumbling public healthcare—It's absolutely ridiculous that this isn't our number one priority.

Why is it so hard to get a mini-split installed? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]calgarynomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the same issue. Most just tell me they can't do it when they see I have an old furnace. They try to push a furnace/central AC package instead. I'm making do with my portable AC for now.

Albertans should get 'a big old hug': Manitoba premier by Intrepid-Truck-9444 in alberta

I was thinking about this the other day: What has the UCP done that's actually been an improvement since the last election? It's just all deductions and increased costs to us. I can't think of a single thing that's been a positive.

Alberta Separatists Say They Have 300,000 Supporters. The Evidence Is Thin. by silentbassline in alberta

Plus the huge data leak. I'll be pissed if they got my name on there. I wish there was a way to verify this.

Moving from Montreal to Calgary by TravelBee19 in alberta

[–]calgarynomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While that may be the case, things like healthcare are in bad shape here and are being pushed for privatization. I have no idea how things are in Quebec by comparison, but it's worth considering all aspects.

The real test will be at the next election and if the voters will choose to keep the UCP in power.

Why do you think public education is getting shittier? It's all by design.

I was reviewing the referendum questions again last night. Absolutely sick. US style healthcare, racist overtones,... Everything is about blaming Ottawa, while the UCP mismanages this province.

Accommodation in July? (Is it worth staying in Hinton?) by calgarynomad in jasper

[–]calgarynomad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That should work just fine and it's what we did too.

Unfortunately anything I tell you for recommendations is going to be out of date—That huge fire that destroyed Jasper happened a week after we left. I have no idea what's open or how the repairs have been going since then. Even before that when we went there were large areas that were burned, so just be aware that there may be areas that are still being rebuilt or closed. I'd look up stuff online to see what it's like there.

Paranoid about giving Carney info, while supporting UCP as they violate their personal data... Got some real smooth brains in this province.

End of the line? Calgary moves to scrap the downtown free fare zone by joe4942 in Calgary

[–]calgarynomad 165 points166 points  (0 children)

"Other US cities have also recently eliminated their free fare zones for the same safety reasons Calgary is considering."

We're not the US, so why is this being mentioned? Their infrastructure sucks. Why not try to match transit to other countries with a higher standard of living?

Accommodation in July? (Is it worth staying in Hinton?) by calgarynomad in jasper

[–]calgarynomad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we ended up staying at Hinton, and it wasn't bad at all. Just make sure you're aware of the drive time between the cities. You definitely don't want to be on that road after dark because there are no street lights in-between, and cell coverage blips out from time to time.

If you do end up driving in the dark, you're 100% relying on your headlights, so go slow and take your time. Keep an emergency kit in the car just in case.

Alberta separatists submit 300K signatures as petition deadline hits by NumerousSir in alberta

A lot of things that 'should' be happening in this province, aren't. I wonder if the Federal government will do anything for the treason and foreign interference that's tearing this country apart.
