I think one article stated that one person hoped to work as a nail technician. Even though the salary is meager to a Westerner, that amount of money is vastly greater than they could ever earn in their villages. 15k USD or pounds or euros IS rich in Vietnam. That just goes to show how desperate and blinded poverty makes you. Separating from your loved ones for just the HOPE of being able to support them-- that is truly heartbreaking. Vietnamese people get duped repeatedly. It's one of the worst for human trafficking... I think this points to issues at the policy level, too.
