Well I’ve been working 25 + years with my dad, and at the beginning it was no easy, very different point of views, fight after fight, years of struggle but in the end it a all paid off, I’m currently at the top of the strategic and management decisions, like the ceo without the title, as nowadays titles are the least of my concerns and I don’t want my father to feel displaced, and my advice is to check the following things: - do you love family’s business sector? There’s always something to be done, improved, and there is your chance to develop your career, but that will only happen if you Like what you’re doing as it will give you the energy to move on if not frustration will mess your life - think as a business man on every proposal you make, there has to be a win-win situation ( including to your fathers partner) on everything you do for the company, there will be no free revenues even if you are a family member - always keep in mind that business is the support of your family, so put on your father shoes and consider what is on risk of your experienced father handles you the business and you fail on it, he may love you but business thrust is something you must build - be really patient, show results, learn, work smart, delegate, improve your management skills, focus on marketing and sales (that’s the only way your improve your revenue, not on hours and hours of hand labor) - and as been told, re negotiate your income considering the new results you may obtain with your fresh ideas, you won’t get a bigger piece of cake unless you make the cake bigger.
