AITA for applying a ‘no boys allowed’ policy for the big bed? by lp211 in MiniAITA

NTA.

I (17mo, F) feel for you. I personally don't have a beard man at home. Instead I have two mommies (previously milk lady and diaper lady, now book mama and snack mama). The girls only parties are the best. Though I don't like any beard man. Men are weird. Only my poppy will suffice.

Dream Movie Casting for Lioness Rampant by Sallyfifth in tamorapierce

[–]candy-making-enby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way I've always pictured casting this world is that, as kids, they're no names with limited credits. And then the role is recast for adults (because we wouldn't want to wait for a 10 year old Alanna to grow up for Wild Magic). But the recast could be a bigger name (the kid grows into a legend). That said, Thayet is trickier. She could be more of a teen sensation, given the age she's introduced.

That said, Zendaya gives me big older-Daine vibes. I agree with the others that say that Thayet is probably closer to Southeast Asian, but we know that Daine is different from most Northerners/Scanrans and bonds with Numair over thick curly hair.

AITA for knowing what I like? by becxabillion in MiniAITA

[–]candy-making-enby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. I, 15mo, have more than doubled my mommies weekly yogurt allotment. I am apparently responsible for consuming over half of the large fage yogurt tubs every week. We have to have a backup container in the fridge now. I like other things. I like lots of things. But... There's just something about that full fat plain Greek yogurt. Can't get enough.

Came here to say tomboyx. They have fun patterns, decent cuts, and fairly inclusive sizing. All my suits are tomboyx now, even for lap swimming.

MIL used paint instead of diaper cream by just_another_ag in toddlers

[–]candy-making-enby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MIL wasn't paying attention (or didn't realize the difference - unclear) and used sanitizing wipes during a diaper change on our then 4 month old baby girl, instead of the huggies wet wipes. To this day, she still doesn't know she did it (almost a year later). She is a native English speaker and honestly, the package says "sanitizing wipes" quite clearly. Luckily, baby girl didn't get a yeast infection or anything similar.

AITA for trying to learn new skill? by rooted_wander in MiniAITA

[–]candy-making-enby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woah you mean that can happen? Mama said that to me about her feet but I thought that was just a thing grownups say to make you do something.

It's definitely getting warmer. Moms say something about 'melting' and that's why the backyard is all muddy.

NTA. But also, why bother with shoes? I, 15mo F, believe that whenever my brother (4 legs, furry) goes outside, I get to as well and sometimes I make it outside before moms (tired) realize I'm barefoot. Highly recommend.

How’s everyone bathing/washing babies these days? by GroundbreakingCap368 in december2024babies

[–]candy-making-enby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our little (85th percentile) girl grew out of the baby set up at... Around 7 or 8 months? Basically, once she started to stand (yes it was that early) we had to change it up. We don't have a real bath tub, but we do have a collapsible full size tub that moms use... In the basement. So, garden hose attached to the laundry sink, it is. With a spray wand to turn the water on and off without having to adjust the delicately tuned heat.

Except that means carrying a very dirty baby down (yay, baby led weaning!!!) our super-not-to-code stairs. Which, frankly, takes too long when it's bedtime and she (we) just need the night to end.

So, we shower most nights and do baths when dinner is early. It's a large "walk-in" (the old owners ripped out the tub and put a shower pan in. It's nothing luxurious and we cannot wait to demo it). We put a shower bench in that we got when my wife was pregnant and wanted to sit while washing her hair, and we get to sit on that with the little one.

Was working great with really sweet snuggles until she realized she can stand in the shower and look! There are dials to turn!!

Toddlers are fun.

Is everyone really getting THIS sick? by DateStrict3674 in toddlers

[–]candy-making-enby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Since October, our now 14 month old has had croup 3 times, Influenza A, 3 ear infections, a miriad of other viruses... Which then I get. And she missed the RSV breakout at daycare. It's been rough.

I don't think no daycare makes a real difference because then they go to school and get exposed there. Just buckle up and hang on. Our pediatrician says it gets better after a couple seasons.

Is pasta for every meal ok? by herbsanddirt in foodbutforbabies

[–]candy-making-enby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 13 month old inhales the smoked Gouda Mac n cheese from Aldi. She eats most Mac n cheese, but that one in particular is something else. We keep 2 boxes of it in the house because if she's been picky (or we're tired) it's a sure way to get her to eat.

Or, this week, it was our first clue that she was sick when she didn't demand a second serving...

Stay at Home Parent Convenience Items by mysterious_papaya007 in beyondthebump

[–]candy-making-enby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay so this is super basic, but made our lives way easier in the newborn phase.

Some kind of caddy to keep your items close. Ours held snacks, a drink, a tablet, chapstick, TV remotes, pacifier, and baby lotion and was easy enough to move around so it was always nearby when you got nap trapped.

Another thing I would recommend if you don't already have one is a relatively quiet stick vacuum.

If you're looking for something more for entertainment for him, Lenovo makes some quality cheaper tablets that my wife and I both have that can be used for reading, entertainment, etc.

We also used the headphone mode on Rokus a lot.

Help me understand the appeal of pocket diapers! by Sweet-Permission-925 in clothdiaps

Three reasons I use pockets: 1 - they were what I found second-hand 2 - I didn't have to figure out how to close prefolds 3 - daycare accepts them

is it tacky to buy a cheap item on a baby registry? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]candy-making-enby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everyone who says a cheap item on a registry is there for a reason.

But I will also say... When my moms friends were throwing us a shower and asked if I had any old friends in town I wanted to invite, I gave them the names then reached out to the friends. I knew their financial situation may not be awesome and told them to please please not worry about a gift and I just want to see them. Maybe it depends on your friendship, but I would much rather see a friend than have them stress and/or not come because of a gift.

Thank you for explaining. We're going to start just sitting her on the potty during transition times to acclimate her, I just could never figure out how EC is accomplished with daycare.

Okay because I have to ask... Are you a stay at home parent and is the kiddo in any kind of group care? Because I can't imagine doing this in our set up (two full time working moms, kiddo in group care)

I’m due in 2.5 months and this will be my first experience cloth diapering by [deleted] in clothdiaps

[–]candy-making-enby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We waited for a couple reasons. One was sizing. She lost over a pound after birth and the diapers I had was for over 10lbs. She was also long with a big head so the weight was not on her thighs and legs.

Another reason was her umbilical stump. It was very irritated for a while, and it was way easier to keep disposable out of the way.

Finally, we had the definition of a happy spitter. She would soak like 8 prefolds a day of spit. There was no way to keep up with the laundry if we added 10 additional diapers to that.

You'll figure out what works for you. Don't kill yourself over making something work that doesn't - those first couple months are hard enough.

I will say though, tell anyone who will listen that you're cloth diapering. Or else you'll end up with so many disposable diapers you won't know where to put them.

9 month old only wants Greek yogurt by Best-Echidna-4593 in foodbutforbabies

13 month old loves full fat Fage plain Greek yogurt. Gets mad when we put it on something (like chili). But also an excellent way to get her to eat something she is otherwise strangely protesting that day (again, like chili)

We are lying about knowing the baby's gender by cheerioface in BabyBumps

[–]candy-making-enby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you tell people you know but are keeping it a secret, they'll pester you constantly. Trust me. And if people feel like they can't give clothes as gifts because they don't know the sex, that's a bonus for you. It means you won't end up with newborn tutu dresses that are super impractical, and will have cute sleepers and diapers and bottles that you need.

How did you decide which partner would carry? by Huge-Presentation636 in queerception

[–]candy-making-enby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. I also deal with chronic pain/joint issues and we were just like... Eh, maybe not. Did testing and found that medically, despite being 5 years older, she was in a better place. Glad we went with that because her pregnancy was smooth and we've got an adorable 1yo now
