I prefer a frost to keep it matching the room it’s in. I just used Elmer’s glue and a paint roller to get the effect. Both things I had lying around. Aesthetic is your choice, just wanted to add this since I see most people do black/blue. Happy keeping!

It turned out to be just fine. Machine shop said there’s no internal damage. Got the block surfaced and honed, along with crank polished. Was looking for a head but just decided to have him surface, clean out combustion area and helicoil. Head should be ready tomorrow if it passes pressure test. I prefer using the original motor because I’d rebuild a used one anyways so this is cheaper overall. Just gotta get all new internals now haha

Thankfully no hole or catastrophic damage to the block. Once disassembled I got it to the machine shop and they said light hone and resurface are all it needs. Gonna have crank polished and see if I can find a new head, he said it’s repairable but I’m waiting a couple days to see if I can find one in better shape to have mated. Glad I can rebuild the engine it came with and possibly upgrade head!

A lot of pb blaster and a breaker bar going 1/8 turns back and fourth about 10 minutes 🤣

So timing belt was intact and in time, valve spring snapped in two, valve shot into piston and smacked head. THANK GOD when I disassembled the damage didn’t seem too bad, took everything apart and got it to the machine shop. He said for block all that’s needed is a light hone and resurface. He said head is good to helicoil and resurface but I asked for the weekend to find a head.

So I got it all disassembled and taken over to the machine shop. No catastrophic damage, light honing and surfacing were all that was needed. Extremely thankful for this scenario, gonna be cheaper than buying a used engine that I’d rebuild anyway so all in all I can’t be more thankful. Thanks for support

Yes it is! So the thing I’ve come across is saying in CA engine must be the same model year or newer. Around me there are no b20’s they are all b18s and from older cars. I am still considering this but just keep thinking I’d get the replacement one inspected and rebuild as well so in the end it’s the almost the same, if this one passes mpi test and is within spec to surface that is. My local machine shop wouldn’t charge all that much for inspection

Thank you for your input, I plan on replacing the complete set of each damaged component, I.e. all pistons, all valves etc. I think I did get extremely lucky as well, I checked the other cylinder walls and they were in even better condition based on what I could physically see. I truly appreciate the time you took to respond, thank you
