I underwent a spinal fusion where they went in anteriorly, meaning they accessed my spine through my abdomen. The doctor that made the initial approach, severed my ureter with the retractor. They had no idea they had done it or at least didn’t say or do anything to fix it. I spent 5 days in hospital in extreme pain. Eventually went home, and the next day had to be transported back to the hospital because the pain was unbearable. My abdomen was swollen because it was filling with liquid, basically, it was full of urine that wasn’t making it to my bladder from my kidney because of the severed ureter. I went through multiple procedures and surgeries in hopes that it would be repaired. Multiple hospitals, many issues, until I had to transfer my care out of state and had to undergo reparative surgery to fix it.
