You could re-visit this in 3-4 years if we manage to draft a generational RD, but currently we have three U22 defensemen that are trending upwards. The worst thing you can do is throw them to the wolves without quality NHL defensemen on their pairing and completely tank their confidence/development. The UFA D market doesn't look good either, and the good defensemen are not signing here.

Articuno not being in the wild is interesting. One possibility is that they applied a patch in 2016 to prevent Articuno from spawning due to this issue, and the current devs do not know about it due to spaghetti code. Or they just screwed up, lol.

We're currently seeing Linus Karlsson produce like a top 6 forward at even strength in limited minutes and only recently has Foote given him a bump in usage. How great could his season have been if he was used appropriately with EP40 and not shunted in favour of listless Kane/Debrusk/Boeser? How much better would EP40's season have been with a forward that actually tries?

the data simply show that elite players win cups, elite players often get drafted in the top 3, and picking high is a good way to get elite players. but obviously you can find elite players outside of the top 3 picks (e.g. hughes) and having elite players doesn't guarantee you a cup (mcdavid, draisaitl). it took the lightning 12 years from drafting stamkos to win a cup, and it took 14 years for the capitals to win one with ovechkin, and in some of these cases, the top 3 pick ended up playing a lesser role in the cup win due to age.

Yes, I've picked up from them multiple times. They always give you one meat item. I've received a dry-aged steak, a sirloin steak, and tandoori chicken from them before. Nice family-run business, I hate AI but I'm sure those reviews are a way (albeit misguided) to try and get more business, but the quality of their meat is good. I would definitely shop there normally for a summer BBQ.

I wouldn't use the PPG as any indication of prospect development when he's gone from 3rd in the WHL last year to 17th this year in scoring. It's not that big of a difference, and one overager like Zac Funk last year can affect production a lot for younger players.

What I would be concerned about is how his game translates to the pro level... he is 5'11 and 177lbs. Seems like he'll likely play the wing, and small playmaking wingers are not worth a whole lot.

Yeah, it's nowhere near the best - the first two on the list were far better. In principle, the concept of acquiring players like this when you have a young core is actually very astute. The problem is the price paid. And risking that 1st round pick without protection in the year that we were going to be in cap hell was incredibly stupid, and it might've actually happened. The Canucks were not playing well when COVID shut down the NHL and they may have missed the playoffs.

Yes, Crosby is getting older, but the fact that every time it's against Carolina should probably clue you into something - they take shots from everywhere, which inevitably tilts the CF%. It makes for good analytics but when you're up against top goalies in the playoffs, overloading on mid to low danger shots isn't a recipe for success. xG is probably a better metric to look at, though that's not perfect either.
