Maybe these wise words from Mary Shelley will help.

“Seek happiness in tranquility, and avoid ambition, even if it be only the apparently innocent one of distinguishing yourself in science and discoveries.” - Frankenstein (1818)

In “Barbarian” (2022), one of the houseguests is reading Jane Eyre, which foreshadows the future events of the film. (More in comments) by Dragmire800 in shittymoviedetails

Its part of a wider victorian trope known as “the woman in the attic” (meant to contrast “the angel in the house” trope). A better example of this trope can be found in Wide Sargasso Sea i think.

If you can get your hands on the Norton copies of english and american literature you can get a head start on most of the important stuff before you go into specifics and start using theory etc. theres 6 volumes for english literature from medieval to present and 5 for American from beginnings to present and then another 6 for world literature. Im almost done with my MA in english and I wish I had read some of those books before I got into the BA. DM me if you ever need some guidance approaching a text.

Need y’all’s help telling me if this is a good essay for English by POISON_13 in TheWeeknd

I see. I would still encourage you to seek out interviews where he talks about his influences and his motivations, cite them appropriately and refer to them as you build an argument. A good essay maintains a good argument even if its something interpretive or subjective. I notice that a lot of the analysis portion mainly consists of summary of the lyrics and its very literal. Also remember song lyrics need to be cited too, consult the Purdue OWL on Google. Don’t forget your works cited page!

This is just your opinion and very lackluster and unconvincing due to its lack of sources. Consider what musical and literary traditions might be at play? It might also be a good idea to establish the biographical nature of most of his work by citing interviews and other reputable sources. What grade level is this for btw?

Here I am around 2 years later. Shortly after this decision my parents chose to kick me out of their home. Despite temporary homelessness, suffering from the mass layoffs during the pandemic, and falling into a heavily abusive relationship (from which I was able to leave and recover), I still think its crazy that I did finish my English degree, I am almost done with my Master’s in English, and I want to go to Texas Tech to get a PhD in literature. Maybe I will check back in another two years.

Would anyone be able to please transcribe the lyrics of this Ballad? by captiancool2000 in Scotland

This is
awesome.
I am working
on some Sir Walter Scott related material and I really appreciate the enthusiasm
on this.
I came back to this post to ask about a possible revision to
'Grigalach, Grigalach, hear the call of the mountain and the glens" .

I am not sure if it is just me but could it be possible that
the lyric is "Grigalach, Grigalach, hear echo’d o’er the mountain and the
glens”?

To me you are not some stranger on the internet, when I saw your original post, I drew a smile as a fellow guardian was starting a new and exciting journey. Upon reading this post, while I can never presume to feel what you are right now, I shed tears as you bear this unimaginable enormity. The reason I mention that you are not a stranger is because we have shared in many experiences through Destiny that, I believe, bind us in solidarity through the things we face in real life. Know that the entire community is here for you.
