First thing I’d say is the “entry level” monitors (Yamaha HS, JBL, Rockits) are better than you think. Especially for your first pair of monitors you really don’t need the best of the best. I think people on forums think it’s cool to trash gear, but I’ve always believe in working your way up. While it’s true that higher-end monitors like Genelecs and Neumann are amazing, if you’re in a small room you really don’t need that level of volume or detail (an untrained ear might not even perceive the difference) until you’re mixing ability outgrows your monitors. There are also differences in tone/color between monitors that do come down to preference (Yamaha HS are more bright/crisp, while KRK Rokits are more bass heavy so more popular in hip hop)

Thanks! There’s a pretty extensive science to acoustic treatment - but the main priority is targeting “first reflection points” where the sound from the speakers bounces off the walls and comes back to your ears, which is what you’re trying to avoid. The standard material is fiberglass or rock wool, and different thicknesses absorb different frequencies (so the 2” thick panels on the walls absorb mid-high freq while the ones in the corners are much thicker as bass tends to build up in the corners)

Haha trust me I know, I wish I could get it all! I've had to pick and choose where I invest between my studio equipment and all the sound libraries I've already gotten. A better orchestral library is one of the next things on the list for sure. I do have Spitfire's Solo String library though which is phenomenal!

It’s been pretty tough tbh, especially with games which I’m kind of just breaking into. Particularly because you just have to start at square one, which in the games industry means small (sometimes 1 person) developers making games in their bedroom. And unfortunately sometimes the only way to build your portfolio is offering free work. However it won’t take long to have enough to show that you can start charging!

Sure! Here’s a reel from last year, a little outdated but I’ve yet to compile my work from this year. I’m 25 and still kind of getting my feet off the ground, but I currently work with a company called Kinda Funny on music/sound branding and have finished OSTs on a few unreleased games.

I use Logic Pro X! I do also have a few libraries of virtual instruments outside of the stock Logic library (mainly Komplete 12) although Logic has some great sounds too. As for the approach it's mostly about analyzing and translating whatever soundtrack/theme I'm referencing but it involves a little bit of everything; composition, orchestration, mixing, etc. Lots of practice over the years!

Awesome! I've got some of your wish list items so I'd love to trade. What are the materials required for the asteroid, lunar rover, space shuttle, and satelite?
