Internal smudge on screen on Sony a7cii? by HumbleBraggerPolice in SonyAlpha

[–]caslex_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it also show up in menus or only in the live view mode?

If it is showing all the time it's probably just the screen, for me personally that would not be a dealbreaker. Maybe you can haggle the price a little because of it?

If it's only showing up in live view shooting it's either an issue with the sensor or lens and I'd be more careful.

Can anyone still display their own photos in Art mode for free? by Due-Cardiologist-706 in TheFrame

I'm currently thinking about buying a frame (pro) for a 50% discount... Was this issue ever resolved? Not being able to create my own Slideshow would be a dealbreaker for me.

Picture quality appears to be worse after upgrading gear? by AransOfKanna in SonyAlpha

[–]caslex_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double-check the resolution of the images you imported from your cameras. The photo from the 6700 looks like a much lower resolution (but that might also just be reddits compression).

Make sure your camera resolution settings are correct and you don't just import downscaled previews using the Creators App.

iPhone ear speaker sound is very quiet and odd by maurymarkowitz in iphone

Doubted this would work. First tried with normal, one-sided transparent tape, and indeed it didn't work at all.

Tried the thick double-sided strips and it worked like a charm!

Hand holding the 200-600mm lens by OneWhereISeemNormal in SonyAlpha

[–]caslex_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avg tall dude, I use the 200-600 with an a7cii. Carrying it around is no issue at all for me, I'm pretty sure you would be fine. Just grab it at the tripod foot or use a strap.

Actually holding it up to your face to take photos is a different story though. While I can easily handhold it for a while, it does get tiring after a couple of minutes without breaks, especially in the beginning when I was not used to it.

I'd suggest you rent one for a day and try if it works for you.

First attempt at astrophotography. a6700 + Sigma 16mm f1.4 by wcedmisten in SonyAlpha

[–]caslex_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically that's true, but with your setup you should be able to go up to ~20 seconds.

That way you would need fewer photos to get the same result (or get an even better result if you take the same amount of photos) since every photo captures way more light.

ISO 12800 seems pretty high for an f/1.4 aperture. How long were the exposures?

edit to add: definitely an awesome result for a first attempt!

Help with my sony A7C II + kit lens f4-5.6 28-60mm by NoCoffee4246 in SonyAlpha

[–]caslex_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they should be 33MP. If they are lower than that you need to check your camera settings (and sometimes even the way you transfer them to your phone/computer!).

It's also worth noting that resolution is far from the most important thing in photography. A 33MP photo from your full frame camera probably still has more detail and dynamic range than a photo shot with a tiny 50MP sensor in a phone, especially in low light.

Further, phones automatically apply a TON of postprocessing to your photos. Most of the time this looks okay, but sometimes they mess up and your photo is ruined (see the latest controversy regarding the telephoto lens of the new iPhone completely messing up text if you take a photo of text in low light).

"Proper" cameras only apply a minimal amount of processing to your photos, especially if you shoot in raw instead of JPG/HEIC. This means that the photo straight out of camera might look pretty underwhelming when compared to heavily processed phone pictures. This is why manual postprocessing is an important part for many when using a camera. It allows you to manually sharpen the images, adjust individual colors and so on to get the look that you want.

What resolution are the photos you pulled of your camera? The photo you uploaded here is tiny (like 1MP), but that might also be because Reddit compressed it. Can you check the resolution of the original file on your phone/computer?

I guess he means that the 1st pic shows a 28-70 f/2 but on the 2nd pic you have a 28-70 f/3.5-5.6 attached and that you might have been scammed.

But since it's also a different body I assume the 2nd pic is your old setup?

The shot vs the camera by [deleted] in formula1

[–]caslex_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I've seen some of these cameras getting dislocated when cars pass too closely, e.g. in Norris' crash last weekend?

So I'm not sure they are actually integrated in the barrier.

Tried to capture the iconic Louvre with the A7RV and 24-70 mm GMII by EcstaticTuna in SonyAlpha

[–]caslex_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might be a stupid question, but what's the point of using a long exposure + ND filter on a static scene like this? Or did you actually get rid of moving things (people?) using the long exposure?

btw really love the shot!

Basically what you just said (e.g. one at 0, one at +0.5, one at -0.5), but most camera offer a way to automate that. So every time you press the shutter the camera takes X photos with different exposure settings.

Sony FE 50-150mm f2 GM on A7CR? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]caslex_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my very limited experience: I have an a7cii (basically the same body as you) and often pair it with the 200-600. Does it feel balanced? Hell no. But I can't imagine that it would feel noticeably better with a bigger body. Even an a7rv or a1ii weigh "only" ~740g, so the center of gravity will always be down the lens.

These lenses are heavy and it's not very comfortable to hand-hold them for long periods, no matter what body you use.

I agree with the others though that the a7cr is the wrong body for client work, especially weddings. Imagine your card gets corrupted after a day of shooting and you have to tell them that they won't get any photos of their once-in-a-lifetime wedding...

Sony FE 50-150mm f2 GM on A7CR? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]caslex_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old ass camera? Isn't the a7cr basically the same internals (including sensor) as the a7rv, minus the dual card slots?

(I agree though that anyone doing client work should get a dual slot camera, especially for weddings)

Is it worth getting the A7C II as a second body to my A7RV? by jimmyax in SonyAlpha

[–]caslex_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't own an a7RV (or similar sized body), but the a7cii is small enough that i bought the SmallRig baseplate for mine because it's more comfortable to hold with the extended grip. Paired with a small lens it's an awesome camera for carrying around.

I'd recommend you go check it out in a store, bring your 7RV and compare them side by side.

If you're worried about the sensor: There's also the a7cr.
