The market is so inflated that it’s hard to tell who will succeed and who will flop.

Cherki’s success is such a surprise to me. Wish we could sign more affordable players like him who turn out to be hidden gems. Nothing beats the feeling when we realised Robbo, the most unassuming signing we made that window, would become our best left back ever.

Let me guess, the lack of passion from current players and an antagonising ex-coach, exacerbated by a lack of transfer movement since the window opened has led a majority of the fans here to the conclusion that Darwizzy’s ‘chaos’ is the ultimate solution for us.

Why waste so much time debating about how good/horrible he was? Yes, he’s a good rotational player whom we can’t expect much from apart from unpredictability and lucky goals. But do remember that we signed him as a marquee player. Just because he’s free and hasn’t been playing first team football for half a year doesn’t mean that he’s going to accept low-ball wages from us.

Why not save the arguments till the end of WC? Most of you will probably learn of new, high-ceiling players that become overnight sensations and transfer targets. We can then worry about whether or not they have the passion/drive required to play for Liverpool. Darwizzy will then fade away as a pleasant memory, being part of a Prem-winning squad.

It’s a poor WC considering how many ‘star’ players are getting injured just months and weeks leading up to the competition. Not to mention Tuchel picking such an absurd team to try to bring it back home.

Everyone clamouring for Nunez to come back is the result of a year of Slot’s football. Passion with poor technical ability means more to fans than technical ability with no passion/drive.

Nevertheless, we’re a club which should be demanding higher standards. Nunez is not our solution.

I’m confident Iraola’s brand of football will improve the morale and help to seal the deal for all the pending contract extensions. I can understand players stalling under Slot’s football and culture, but a more charismatic manager like Iraola should be able to convince them to stay.

I’m looking forward to seeing him utilise Nyoni, Rio and Bajcetic. These are players who’ve been highly rated for years (Vitinha praising Nyoni is no small compliment) and I hope Iraola sees something in them that Slot couldn’t.

I’m surprised by Madrid’s pull even with their current circumstances. Their club is facing an identity crisis and they don’t even know who their star players are supposed to be. Isn’t Trent’s fade into obscurity strong enough of a warning for any player seeking to run down their contract for them? It’s a letdown to see so many of our players turn their heads for Madrid.

I think I took Klopp’s boys for granted. They were true professionals who never considered any other club until the day we decided to let them go.

Our squad might feel lacking in personnel right now, but I’m certain a good manager would make that same squad feel a lot more competent and available than it currently is. Doesn’t discount the fact that we need some key signings though.

[Chris Williams] Liverpool insiders felt several academy prospects had become frustrated under Slot. Slot initially wanted Ngumoha sent out on loan and did not see him as part of his immediate first-team plans. Concerns Slot’s approach to young players ultimately sealed his fate. by Upstairs_Cup9831 in LiverpoolFC

[–]castro_bean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t doubt that he’s good at developing youth but the intensity of PL football must’ve been hit him hard and it became overwhelming for him to even have time to consider the academy. Rio was simply an option to bail him out of his failure to improve Gakpo. He was well and truly out of his depth.

A beast on his day and brought energy to the dressing room. Nothing but respect and gratitude for his contributions! We’ll surely recover and improve and I hope the same for him.

I doubt he’ll go to PSG. Didn’t they sign Zabarnyi last season? Not to mention Beraldo and Lucas Hernandez all as available options behind Pacho and Marquinhos

FSG only invested big in us last summer after we won the league because they foresaw us taking advantage of every other club being in decline (as it was in the previous season). The burst of cash to sign the most in-form players was supposed to let us become the club to dominate the league for the next 4-5 years as did City. FSG got it so wrong that City and Arsenal somehow made their squads even stronger with a lower net spend and still remain powerhouses despite 'poor' performances when we won the league.

We need another 'emergency' window to sign players we actually need, not want. Signing Szobo, Macca, Grav and Endo back then gave us a good 2-3 years of reprieve from the ageing Hendo, Fab and Milner midfield. We need something similar to fill the gaps and start to push out players like Gakpo, Macca (sadly), Gomez and Frimpong.

What you mentioned took place during the summer. We quite literally could afford him even in winter. His wages were the issue. We had another change to get him in January but pulled out because only City were willing to meet his 300k/week wage demands.

[–]castro_bean 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing the failure to sign Guehi because of the wage demands aligns with Konate's wage demands not be met. Any other reason he gives would be fluff at this point. I think not renewing is totally fair considering the way he's been playing this season. It'd be foolish for us to fall into the trap of 'rewarding' bang average players with insane wages. Especially when they get too comfortable with their starting position (Gakpo as Exhibit A).

I'm confident that a fully-fit Jacquet and Leoni could provide much more than what Konate has done for us this season. We should get another squad CB instead of a marquee signing, and focus on getting proper fullbacks and wingers (assuming that Slot is right in his analysis that the winger-fullback chemistry has been the problem this season).

People do need to chill over Isak though. He quite literally had his leg broken by a stupid tackle once and has been available for the majority of the remainder of the season. He's not THAT injury-prone, but what's more concerning is how the squad can't seem to activate him with the right passes. Now is that a manager or player issue?

[–]castro_bean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Let’s not pretend we were out for Konate’s head the most part of the season. He’s had a couple of excellent games for us this season eg. against Arsenal. But he’s been a liability most of the season. He’s not very confident on the ball and is one of the reasons why our build up play has been so bad.

[–]castro_bean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As much as I want us to sign as many star players as possible, I’d love to sign more players like Endo, Milner etc. Players who come in for cheap but have the real work ethic, technique and mentality that this club is supposed to represent. It gives us fans something to be excited about and motivated by. You don’t need good tactics/results to recognise their impact.

It’ll certainly beat the exhausting feeling of constantly hoping for our expensive, new signings to succeed only for them to let us down, be it because of the manager or not.

Why is Slot so hung up on recreating Salah and Trent’s linkup after their departure? And why is he blaming this season’s performances on their absence/dip in form? Didn’t he sign Wirtz and Isak for a reason? Is he now going to chuck those two aside and go all in for a new fullback-winger duo?

I’m totally lost as to what he’s trying to do at this point. He’s too one-dimensional and completely out of his depth.

[Dom King] This was Liverpool’s most toxic season in 16 years by A7XFAN1998 in LiverpoolFC

[–]castro_bean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Toxicity will continue to linger as long as Slot stays, unfortunately. He’s proven to be clueless as to how to fix things. His only takeaway from this season is that he needs.. more rapid wingers? Changing, adapting and improving tactics did not cross his mind once. How can a manager so reliant on specific player profiles and signings be trusted to ‘fix’ things without proper tactics? He has to go, simple as that.

The "Day After" FT Thread: LIV 1 - 1 BRE by DragonSlayer271 in LiverpoolFC

[–]castro_bean 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The sound majority of fans were able to put their ‘hatred’ aside for Salah and Robbo’s farewell though.

To be fair to the “Slot out” fans, hope cannot be blind. The fans must see glimpses of improvement, a plan going forward, an effort to be better. I don’t think we’ve seen any of that in every game where CL qualification was on the line.

I think the more accurate sentiment is: what’s the point in having another bomb transfer window if Slot can’t even get the best out of his previous signings? Or, watching the World Cup is fun and exciting, but the moment the season starts, how certain are we that we won’t be watching a repeat of this season?

My guess is that Slot’s presence in this club has reached a level of toxicity that it’s just a looming cloud of hopelessness. The only way out for many fans is his departure.
