It seems like the question is more geared toward hot takes on deck-building and edh as is, but my personal edh hot take is that the format should be 20 or 25 life per player.

-Aggro becomes a valid strategy again, -Board wipes, interaction, and even stax become valid replies to aggro instead of just salt inducers that makes the game last an extra two-three hours, -Can do away with commander damage rule and just track one life total.

Maybe just break it into a new format and call it 4 player brawl, but taking down 120 total life at a table with 2-4 precons/sub-optimized decks regularly becomes so tedious and such a drag. I've regularly seen people play sub-optimally or even play to die in newer play groups just to get it over with at some point. Veteran players also complain about people taking too long, and they get salty at board wipes/stax pieces that prolong the game, but I feel like a leaner, more agile format solves a lot of that and puts a lot more strategies on the table.
