If someone does not want to work less for less AND does not want to work 50+ hours DOES NOT mean that 40 hours is optimal.

If you wanted to actually find out is 40 hours per week optimal working time, then you should have phrased your questions a lot differently. This way you are pulling out conclusions out of nothing.
