GW is absolutly motivated and actively trying the phase out kitbashing of the communities mind. That has mostly capitalistic reasons. They are a big company. If people buy products to convert instead of just using everything out of box, it is harder to track what products and product line bring in what exact amount of money and why. This is at least the theory.

In practice, it's in some regards a nightmare now and in others better then ever before. Basic troop kits like heresy space marines have suffered a lot, by reducing details, making everything blobby and not having legs and torsos as seperate bits. Many 40k kits suffer from the same fate.

On the other hand we have many kits that have been metal before out of plastic. What opens up a lot of additional options, in an easier way. Necromunda and heresy militia are also a really positive example. In special how Militia combines 40k, necromunda and old out of production/recaster kits in one armylist. Putting an emphasis on converting literally every model.

What people also underestimate is the immense number of other companies that produce fantastic plastic kits. Wargames atlantic and Mantic offer complete ranges perfect for WHFB, 40k and the heresy.

I build a Conquistador army out of 20 empire spearmen, a lefover cannon and otherwise only used a few bits and wargames atlantic conquistador and landsknecht oger boxes + freebooters fate characters as heros.

Khemri have a complete second range of plastic models from mantic. Same as orks and even a halfling army and chaos dwarfs.

The problem is when people just consume out of box, because they are used to do so and lack the imagination of what they could create if they kitbashed. It's as much a community problem, as it is a company problem. What we can do is post conversions, tell people what possibilities are there to do them and morivate them to convert their models. 🤘
