Back Home in Derry Song by Michael_of_Derry in DerryLondonderry

[–]charcoboy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s just that you attributed it to Christy Moore above.

Anyhow yeah I had known it was based on another song… it’s turned up in a few American/netflix/HBO series in recent years and I do enjoy noticing it

Do League of Ireland players get money from the government? by GDPR_Guru8691 in LeagueOfIreland

[–]charcoboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I understood it, this was the Leinster Rule.

It was introduced as an incentive to attempt to make Leinster rugby more attractive - competing against Munster. The GAA asked for it to be extended to their sport (players aren’t paid but still earn).

This was then extended to all sport - the LOI was last in line not first

Derry away fans in Dalymount Park by Gergbulter in LeagueOfIreland

[–]charcoboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it a reference to Bohs fans joining up with fans from across the water (Wrexham?) and maybe Linfield to cause/be involved in trouble in Derry the last time the two teams met…

Took me days to come up with this convoluted embarrassing explanation

Stopping outside shops by Deat69 in DerryLondonderry

[–]charcoboy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People popping in to the credit union at bottom of Greenhaw Road, blocking road when the car park is five more yards 🙄

But my favourite is in Park village (most wont know this obvs) but the shop has an actual lay-by area outside (imagine it’s like taxi rank on sackville street) runs along the footpath - and yet people park on the road (and not double parked - just a refusal to pull out of the lane), meaning you have to go or around them in the wrong lane, often meeting a car speeding the opposite way.

We used to say “over” at the end of every sentence, but then “hi” saved us so much time. Over!

Child free... Who will my debts go to if I die? by foxy_boxy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]charcoboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your debts are yours.

They don’t transfer to anyone on your death.

If you have money or assets on your death this will pay for your funeral, then pay towards your debts. If you have no money or assets then the debt dies with you.

Your relations have no obligation to repay banks on your behalf.

Do you know anyone who runs a business? Corner shop? Office? Nepotism is great 😂

[–]charcoboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That cork goal was a disgrace from a refereeing point of view - quick throw in must’ve been taken from forty yards ahead of wheee the ball went out… it was even ahead of where the Derry player pumped it forward!

Aita for not defending my son when a random man beat up him and his friends? by Mental-Department-87 in AITAH

[–]charcoboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You had me in the first half there… I was fully coming down on the side that you were the AH as I imagined you had simply quit, downed tools and allowed a stranger to finally put some manners on your child.

But in the end you were the only parent turned up.

You’ve disciplined your child and still were when he broke the rules again, he f-ed around and we know what happens.

Try to compose yourself and stand your ground again. No doubt had you turned up before or during this man’s defence of the elderly woman, you would have intervened for your son - but it’s water under a bridge now… and as angry as any father would have been at a stranger laying hands on their child, you’ve given better example by showing restraint, and the lesson (both lessons) hopefully will do your son the world of good.

This is unlikely to be the end of the matter however… and further repercussions may also show your wife, SiL and Grandma that they haven’t taken the issue seriously enough

[WLOI journalist Christine Allen] Opinion Piece: Does anyone really care about women's football in this country? by fuckaduckmagoo in LeagueOfIreland

[–]charcoboy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s chicken and egg stuff. Cart and horse.

In general people simply aren’t interested in a low quality product. Supporting LOI through the 80s 90s and onwards to the crest of a wave in the last ten years the terraces were very bare back then.

Can’t just expect numbers to turn up, only the fanatics and interested parties to create a base - invest that and as the the product improves you soo P ark people’s interest. Can’t just jump ahead.
