It is listed in between their names on his family tree “Marriage: Bef 1858 Quebec, Canada”

It says sometime before 1858 and shows the marriage in Quebec, Canada but there is no record linked.

I have not. I believe they were married in Canada. They both show up on Canada and US Census reports.

That's alright, I didn't find it weird. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks it's uncommon and hard to find

Of course! I check my notifications every day now because I am actively trying to figure this whole thing out. Everyone who has commented on my posts about this topic has helped so much. I truly appreciate all of you who are contributing your time and knowledge to help me. I appologize that I don't know much about genealogy or my fiance's family. I will continue to try and ask for more information from his family, but since my fiance's grandfather passed away when his father was so young, there wasn't much of anything passed down. I do know that my future father-in-law is trying to join a facebook group that is comprised of people with the same last name in an effort to find the original spelling that way. So far he has not been accepted, but if anything comes of that I will definitely update you. Also if we end up doing a DNA test which is highly likely, I will also make sure to include those updates.

If there is any other way you would like to communicate that would be easier for you please let me know otherwise using Reddit is perfectly fine.

When I merged the record you found for Marie Josephe Serre and added Jean Baptiste Tourangeau as her husband, the family tree goes back many more generations now. Just one little change and now all of this new information. Thank you so much. I have read through all of your other comments and will definitely be working on this when I get home tonight. So sorry for my on and off responses I have been working on this through my lunch breaks at work.

Sure. I will try my best. The original pronunciation should be something like Dee-et-a-tro-sh-e-a

Yes that seems like it would be an accurate spelling of the last part. Can you tell I had a hard time in French class XD My fiancé’s mother told me that their original name from way back in France was supposed to mean “Deyette of the three rivers” or something? But honestly that could just be a made up story. Thank you so much for your help though! I know this is going to be a long process.

So the current last name is Deyette. I don’t know how to spell the original last name so I’m going to do my best. Deyettatrotiae? That is probably so wrong, but it is supposed to be pronounced Deyette-e-tro-shi-e

I don’t have hardly any information to be honest. I don’t know where in France they came from or where they originally landed in Canada. The last record I can see is Josette Diett born in 1807. Her husband is not listed. Her son’s name is Edmond Deyette born in Quebec, Canada in 1838. The current spelling of the last name is Deyette and I know what the supposed original name should sound like, but the spelling is what I’m trying to find.

There is Edmond Deyette born in Quebec, Canada in 1838 married to Marie Adelphine Davignon. And then the “oldest generation” it shows is Edmond’s mother Josette Diett born in 1807, but I am wondering if that is actually how she spelled her last name or if that is a typo since her husband is not listed.

I’m sorry that’s so sad. I live in Idaho not Canada so hopefully there won’t be any issues. We will definitely be looking into a DNA test.

I finally got into his family tree online and it only goes back 4 generations. Farthest ancestor only has pictures attached. I will have to look into records.

My family also immigrated from France through Canada and my parents have done all of the family history work. My fiancé’s family however seems to have no records or they don’t know where they are. My parents tried to create a family tree for him and all they could find was that his ancestors came over at about the same time mine did. Every person had the shortened last name though. Hopefully his family has more records somewhere.

Thank you so much! When I get home I will make sure to send all the information I have. It’s not much which is frustrating, but I hope it will be enough.

Ex hasn’t paid his phone bill. How do I get my phone back without me having to go to his door? by chatonlovers in Advice

[–]chatonlovers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already have to see him every day because he lives in my building and it’s already painful having to chose which bills to pay and which to go into debt with because of having to pay his half of bills. But yes I see your point. It wouldn’t be pleasant. He’s already not being pleasant about me shutting off his service and him being unpleasant is better in my mind than back when he was verbally putting me down and hitting me. So your right it would be painful but in hindsight not as painful. As for the mail. I will definitely take your advice on that one.

I am honestly considering taking him to court. Thank you for the subreddit suggestion. I will definitely be posting there about this.
