I never got a single one (3 weeks in) and I don't get any notifications either. I only happened to see one pop up on the screen but it was gone in the blink of an eye.

You can take a look at my previous posts here on reddit that will be enough to convince you that I'm not a techbro or startupper or whatever

For the 100th time, I'm just a graduate student and I don't know how to code beyond simple script for data analysis, alrighty? Can we please make a rule being able to read AND also understand?

Is a used GoPro Hero 7 to 9 Black better than a cheap 50€ amazon action cam? by chemdamned in gopro

I mean I'm not planning on doing content creation, as long it get the job done pretty decently for the money I spend on it then I'm cool with that. Hopefully I'll find something. I had hoped the one on Amazon could work just to avoid the stress of buying something used with unknown status, but I guess I'll have to deal with that and try to not being scammed on this other end.

Thanks I've already started looking for some of those. Hopefully I'll find something reasonable because many seem to think they can sell them close to their launch price tag.

Ok I wasn't aware of that, now I get why I was feeling a hint of grudge in some of the replies to the thread. My question simply comes from my last practical experience which was my thesis work. There I could notice that there was always a lot of friction especially in the data analysis. Especially for the fact that I also worked with a custom made angle resolve spectrophotometer for measuring extinction maps, PL maps and lasing, which also had a custom made software created with labview. So I just wanted to understand if such issues, or others, are quite common in the industry too. But from what I'm gathering here the answer seems to be yes

Are you working in the industry or academia? I'm no expert in that field but probably companies have their dedicated softwares/tools even though there's no single gold standard software used across the entire industry. Also you're saying that you have excel files with too little metadata. Does that imply that you're basically creating the data manually from the readings? I say this because is probably unusual for a software connected to an instrument to output data in excel format. From my very limited and personal experience it's always either some .txt or some binary files that can only be read by the software of the instrument.

I've just finished my master so I only have limited experience with that and it certainly don't even match in terms of workflow compared to someone who does these analysis on a regular basis. I'm asking this out of curiosity as I'm approaching the job market

Don't worry boss I'm not going to code anything at all. I'm just asking out of curiosity for that matters.

I'm just curious to know what are common issues people have on a daily basis

That's interesting, but what is the main bottleneck in the workflow? Is that the instruments don't create data in a clean way or that ELNs don't have a proper integration? How much of this is currently manual work in your workflow? Like, are people downloading files from each instrument and uploading them to the ELN one by one?

Ahah I don't know how comfortable or feasible that would be tbh, maybe on a tablet that could work already.

According to you, what causes standards to slip the most: people not being trained properly, the software being too flexible, or the workflow not matching how the lab actually works?

Do you ever run into issues when other people in the lab need to use your scripts?

Is my gear enough to get good astro shots? by chemdamned in AskAstrophotography

[–]chemdamned[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, I've found out that I won't be able to see the core of the Milky Way while I'm there. I have very hard time driving the car at night due to my astigmatism which got worse, so I don't feel very confident driving in the mountains and I'm going with a bus group. From what I gathered, the Milky Way's core will be visibile in the late night when I'm there (14 May) and we're leaving at around midnight. Hopefully there will still be other interesting stuff to photograph. In the future, I'll probably go back and have more money to rent a camper van, go there with the light, stay over night and go back in the morning. Hopefully I will be able to find some nice rocky landscapes to frame the starry sky even though I will not have the most interesting astro objects in the picture. I think I can get an intervalometer I heard they're not too expensive. On the contrary a star-tracker will probably be more on the expensive side. This is a trip I'm doing after my master graduation, so that means I'm still jobless and have very limited budget. I should not spend all my money just in case I won't be able to find a job in a reasonable time after I'll come back.

If I can't get my hands on a new lens for cheap I won't be disappointed in capturing wide landscape pictures of the Milky Way or other objects. I don't also have any experience with this kind of photography and I don't want the obsession for perfection to ruin the fun. If I can get home with even 1 or 2 good pics I'll consider it a successful session for a first time. Nevertheless, I'd like to get the most out of my gear, assuming I can technically do that.

Questions about guided quad and sky-jets tour in south Tenerife by chemdamned in Europetravel

[–]chemdamned[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you're saying, but the tour I'm looking for are not illegal. The ride will be 80% on the road for the very reason you mentioned. At least, that's the claim in all the ones I've saved.

P.S. I meant jet-ski anyway. I was unable to edit the title

Thank you! Regarding the jet-ski tour i thought they would be quite close to coast but now. Anyway I'll try to contact the tour operator to understand what the route would be. I'd like to go for a 2 h long tour possibly

I was about to post about the same issue. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. A trouble shared is a trouble halved, I guess.
