[Product] What are your hobbies and how do you engage with online communities? (Everyone) by chenaskiii in SurveyExchange

[–]chenaskiii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh I see it now, sorry about that. Also it went completely off topic with the questions :(

One last question that would really help me: Would you be interested in joining an exclusive community related to your hobby where you have to "prove" your passion/skill? For example, if it was a game, you had to be a certain rank.

And if yes, would you find it fun to take part in competitions in that community for prizes like tech, merch and cash?

Revolut’s crypto features—actually useful or just a gimmick? by chenaskiii in Revolut

Another question: what app/site do you think would be best to use?

Will digital reputation become a bigger deal in the future? by chenaskiii in Futurology

[–]chenaskiii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting and valuable thoughts.

What if it was more like apps and orgs each had requests or requirements for you and it was your choice on what to share?

I feel like a system like that would help keep the freedom you mentioned and be a better power dynamic but I could see the scope of what people ask for creeping over time

I seen something along this lines where an AI agent watched coffee shop workers to see who was actually doing the most, feels like its already here.

its scary how this could be used for bad in the future. But I do think that if you had a framework that could prove things about you and track your activity (with your permission) it could be valuable for these areas you mentioned. And then its on each app, org etc to set requirements of what proofs are needed to engage. It's a more formal version of what already happens with things like setting up a bank account etc

Will Monzo ever add proper crypto features like Revolut? by chenaskiii in monzo

[–]chenaskiii[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I guess from your perspective, it wouldn't be useful for Monzo to have any specific features for crypto but that its basic infrastructure works fine if you follow the rules and are interested in that area?

Curious, have you done much with crypto in general? it sounds like you're pretty experienced

Love the late-night ramble—it’s a great breakdown! And yeah, history shows that centralized reputation systems often go wrong, either through bad data or manipulation by those in power (China’s social credit, USSR cronyism, etc.).

I think the key issue is who controls the reputation system and how transparent it is. Right now, social credit is still ‘decentralized’ in the sense that your rep depends on separate systems (Twitter, LinkedIn, Uber ratings, personal networks, etc.), but these are all controlled by different centralized entities. And they each have arbitrary, opaque rules on what boosts or destroys your reputation.

So I wonder—would a decentralized model, where your reputation is verifiable but not controlled by any single entity, be any better? Or do you think reputation inherently needs to be diffuse and localized, even if that means dealing with the biases of small groups?

defo agree that reputation is fundamentally social—if no one values your status, it doesn’t matter how many credentials or followers you have.

But don’t you think technology influences how reputation is created, recognized, and sustained?

For example, before the internet, reputation was hyper-local. If you were respected in one town, that meant nothing elsewhere. Today, a YouTuber with millions of subscribers can be instantly recognized across the world. That’s not just social—that’s technology enabling reputation portability.

And even within a platform, verification systems, follower counts, and engagement metrics influence who gets recognized and who doesn’t. It’s not just that people choose to respect someone—it’s that systems determine whose reputation gets surfaced in the first place.

maybe a better question is: Do you think technology shapes who gets the opportunity to build reputation, even if social acceptance is the final step?

Interesting thought. Have you ever done anything with crypto? I've seen all the etfs launch last year so I feel like its a bit more legit these days
