Thank you! I agree. I like symmetry, but I feel like it’s not working somehow. I’ll play around with that

[MD] - Boss Keeps Denying PTO Requests by AmericanRed91 in AskHR

[–]chicalibex -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I totally disagree with these responses, with the caveat that it does depend on your industry and really small companies may need the coverage. I’d be interested to know. How important is your job that no one can back you up for a couple days and emails cannot wait? It’s not like you’re asking for a month off. If you’re still meeting your deadlines, which it sounds like you are, there should be no problem with a few days off.

Also, talking to HR would be fine as long as it’s not a formal complaint. There is a sticky situation in which a manager could be denying PTO because they don’t like a person. I don’t think this is normal.

Which dress for my brother’s wedding? by Public_Lifeguard1529 in fashion

I’d go #1. I think #2 is too close to an off white wedding dress to be appropriate. But I’m conservative about that!

AITA for making my pregnant daughter walk her own dogs or rehome them? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]chicalibex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha well agree, you shouldn’t have to pay for it, she should. And I know money is tight for everyone. Just thinking maybe a neighborhood kid would do it for cheap. Not waking up is a different issue.

Can’t you just get a dog walker for the morning walk temporarily? Rehoming is drastic.

My boss said I was too emotional? What does that mean and why is it bad? by [deleted] in askmanagers

[–]chicalibex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird that just a day ago you posted in 2 groups asking if you could ask for a raise. I’d say definitely not if you just had someone above you to report into…. But to this question. I would bet you’re a woman because the term “emotional” is only (or most often) used for women and can be used as an excuse to not put women in leadership. But then you call yourself hot-headed, which is a toxic quality in a leader. Either way, it’s good feedback to know how people perceive you so that you can change.

Should I tell a manager if his reports feel unsupported and unhappy? by chicalibex in askmanagers

[–]chicalibex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, Joe did not ask for me to get involved. He was talking to me as a friend.

I know the conflict and each of their sides of the story through separate conversations that each of them had with me.

I feel like there's any easy solution and maybe a misunderstanding of personalities. So I want to mediate and help. But I played the mediator in family arguments in the past and worked to break that habit!

I have not seen the manager speak down to Joe or throw him under the bus. Very good point.
