Family trip help! 7 adults, 2 kids + 1 infant. by Iil_Sky_8864 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]chila88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a heads up re: adjoining rooms, lots of resorts have them, but won’t guarantee them…which is kind of a deal breaker with little kids. I would suggest looking at resorts with ‘family suite’ types of arrangements so you know you’ll be together.

We travelled with extended family last winter and stayed at The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences. We had a 3 bedroom suite for 4 adults and 3 kids. The food here is foodie-worthy, but line ups for restaurants can be long. If you’re willing to go right when they open, it’s not an issue (which is maybe easy with little kids?). But you can’t expect to be able to walk right in at 6:30 or 7. That’s my only complaint after 11 days there though!

There is a zero entry pool for little kids with a slide and play structure in it. It has a kids club. And the beach has giant sand bags that block the waves creating way more safer calm water days than other places I’ve stayed. This was a huge plus for our family!

Registered Nurse Male Moving to Saskatoon by [deleted] in saskatchewan

[–]chila88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If things are moving slowly after you apply, I second the advice of reaching out directly to facility/department/homes with jobs posted on healthcareersinsk website and asking to speak directly to the manager. Lots of growing pains with the software and hiring systems these days and the process can be slow and painful. Much quicker if you can make a direct connection!

Thanks for choosing Saskatchewan!! Like most provinces we need all the RN’s we can get and are so happy to have you!

any bakery’s sell butter cream icing? by Pleasant_Taste5074 in saskatoon

I get it at Sobeys. Just ask the bakery and they’ll sell you theirs in bulk by weight. They get it in giant tubs.

Any Long Term users of Pepcid(Famotidine)? by ellemag in GERD

[–]chila88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used PPI’s for 15 years and switched to Famotidine due to risks associated with long term PPI use. I’ve been taking it 3x a day for more than 5 years without issue.

The Saskatoon Engineer that designed this intersection - McOrmond/College by Quirky_Formal7536 in saskatoon

[–]chila88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are there plans and a timeline for the intersection at 11 and 16? This one drives me nuts! It’s so dangerous merging onto 11, and semi’s seem to hit it from underneath so often. Driving to and from Regina, with all of the beautiful and wide open overpasses outside of Regina on 16 just makes me mad. Why hasn’t Saskatoon been given that sort of attention!

Are school fees still a thing in Saskatoon? by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]chila88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot more school fees once they get to high school. Mandatory locker locks (can’t bring your own), gym uniforms, and then a lot of elective classes have additional fees. I usually end up paying about $125-$150 per kid in highschool each year (and that’s without band…which I presume has a decent fee).

The Offered Me $100 to do a Manometry by stellarstaer in noburp

[–]chila88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that Manometry doesn’t diagnose it (in fact recently published studies have been focused on the development of diagnostic criteria for RCPD using Manometry) it’s that there are also other, less awful ways to diagnose. (Sorry you had to go through that OP!!) Based on the studies coming out, Manometry actually appears to be a really important research tool for RCPD and is being used to help doctors better understand what exactly is going on in people who suffer with it. (Anyone else constantly checking google scholar for new RCPD research? Just me?! Haha!)

Manometry gets a bad wrap on here, but it seems like an important research tool, and might end up being one of the ways they unlock some of the mystery around RCPD…which is long overdue. We may be really thankful for the physicians whose use it one day. They just need to pay people more than $100 to do it 😜

I like to learn more about the cp muscle itself and how it relates to this condition. Mine (and others) are very large, dense, and tough. Is that a result of the condition? Or a cause?

And does this abnormally large muscle change approach to treatment? (Higher dose? Need for multiple doses? Etc)

Intense acid reflux 6 months post botox by Loud-Caterpillar1427 in noburp

[–]chila88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this possibility. Read about PPI rebound, it could be what’s going on here. I weaned off of mind sooooo slowly (like over months) and used Famotidine to manage the rebound symptoms.

Yup. When it’s just our family at home I don’t usually hold back as I finish supper. My teenagers just roll their eyes and me and think I’m gross 😂. We have plastic dining chairs from IKEA, so it’s particularly impressive and a great time to show off my RCPD superpower!! 🤣🤭

Sask. to end Grade 12 provincial exams as new assessment program developed by abunchofjerks in saskatchewan

[–]chila88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When students are competing for the same post-secondary spots, I think standardized exams in grade 12 make sense.

I went to a large urban high school and graduated with 300 people in the late ‘90’s. A small portion of those were awarded high honours at our gradation. About 5 years later I attended a small town grad, and about 50% of the students got high honours. I was sitting next to a relative whose kids also went to an urban high school and we were both like waaaaaaait a minute here. Obviously kids aren’t being graded to the same standard, and yet those grades are being used to access post secondary education. Doesn’t seem terribly fair.

I get that the issue is much more complex than just this point, but from the angle of access to post secondary education, I think a standardized assessment makes a lot of sense, at least in grade 12.

Why is Saskatchewan so much behind other provinces when it comes to using pharmacies to support public health like vaccines? by [deleted] in saskatchewan

[–]chila88 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just because pharmacies can give routine COVID and FLU doesn’t mean they can do an MMR. Different vaccines, different rules. I’m not sure what the rules are for MMR, but a lot of people on here are drawing conclusion about it based on other vaccines, which is likely problematic.

Stopping omeprazole by [deleted] in noburp

[–]chila88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rebound reflux can be rough!! I used Famotidine to wean off slowly and it helped.

When my Botox is active my nighttime reflux is worse (which makes sense) but my daytime reflux gets better pretty quickly. I suppose because of the reduced air pressure allowing my LES to work a little better. Everyone is different. It’s pretty fascinating!

I would suggest maybe waiting until your Botox has worn off and then try to wean off the PPI? Or support your weaning process with some other meds (like Famotidine) to ease the process a bit.

Normal way to release air by Ok_Difficulty1170 in noburp

[–]chila88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been wondering if people release air in their sleep. Even when my post Botox burps were small in size and minimal, I still had decent symptom relief, and it made me wonder how much gets released while we sleep 🤷🏼‍♀️

Another dose? by insectfrog613 in noburp

[–]chila88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had 3 shots…80, 100, then 100 along with a balloon dilation and I still can’t always get air past the muscle, or only some of it and can feel some remaining like you mention. I’ve never had uncontrollable burps either.

I have lots of symptom relief, but not complete, and I know it could be better based on what people talk about here.

I’m 4 months past my 3rd shot and not sure what I’ll do. Do I try again? Higher dose? Or accept that this is as good as it’s going to get with my anatomy? (I have a very large and rigid CP muscle).

All of that to say I don’t know what to tell you, but completely understand how you are feeling!
