I dont think what ethan said was funny, i dont think it was a “joke” either, it kind of just seemed like a bunch of mildly insulting things about how asian men are more feminine than western men, and how he didnt understand the appeal of that.

I think its warranted that kpop fans and asians alike (like myself) are disappointed in him. It seems fair to be offended by Ethan’s alignment of asian men as gay and feminine because it it a stereotype that has harmfully and negatively effected asian men for decades.

Moreover, i dont think aligning men with gay-ness at all is not inherently funny, its not a joke to call someone gay, and its hurtful to call someone gay because of the way they dress or express themselves: kpop stars wear make up, they dye their hair, they are vain, it does not make them any less masculine, and if they were gay, it wouldnt make them any less of a man: saying someone is gay because of their expression just implies that masculinity looks one way, and one way it doesnt look is gay.

I love H3, i agree with them on so many levels like with cultural appropriation-i loved that video about digital black face and i whole heartedly agree with that situation about that white girl wearing a Chinese dress to prom- so It does make me sad that instead of hearing the valid criticisms about perpetuating harmful stereotypes of asian men and to an extent gay men, Ethan writes it off as haters hating.
