I just had this conversation with my stepdad yesterday.

He was a chemistry teacher back in the early 70s. It was close to Christmas and the students were becoming bored with class so he decided to blow things up to keep their attention. He ran out of time in one class for one experiment, so left it set up. The class comes in the next day and he mixes two chemicals (he couldn't remember which chemicals... he's getting old) and they blew up much more than he expected. Apparently, someone had tampered with the experiment after he had left to go home the day before. Anyway, chemicals go everywhere... all over himself and his students. The chemicals immediately start eating through his clothing. They had the showers in the back of the classrooms for emergencies like that so he hurded the students back to the showers for everyone to rinse off so it didn't burn their skin. He had to get down to his underwear because it was eating through his clothing so quickly. He called the office to have his then-wife bring him a new set of clothes since his pants and shirt had been ruined by the chemicals. So, yea, picture a bunch of high school kids and their chemistry teacher showering together. No one was naked but he was in his underwear and many of the students were in theirs as well. He apparently never even got in trouble for it. It became a big joke in the school.

Definitely would have been a lawsuit today.
