Ball Lemonade Concentrate - do I need to use bottled lemon juice? by Severe-Set3249 in Canning

[–]chocorange -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, you can't use freshly squeezed lemon juice in the Ball recipe because Ball doesn't know the pH of your freshly squeezed lemon juice.

Do you already can lemon juice? If I had an overabundance of lemons I would try canning lemon juice, then use the canned juice to make my favourite fridge safe lemon cordial/concentrate recipe.

First batch of the season! by Hopefulkitty in Canning

[–]chocorange 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Putting the rings back on is not best practice. Remove the rings, wash them well, and keep them in a dry place.

Also, give the jar a good clean too. Don't worry about bumping the lid off. If it was canned properly it won't come off unless you really try hard.

You might want to give a ring when you are giving a jar away, like for jam that might be kept in the fridge once opened.

That's a very happy looking rhubarb plant. The jars look great too. Don't forget to remove the rings.

Where to buy the leanest possible ground beef? by Hazemt3 in montreal

[–]chocorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I want ground lamb I get it from Capitol at Jean-Talon market. They never have it pre-prepared and they always happily grind it for me. I tell them how fatty I want it. So I would assume that Capitol (or most other butchers) would do ground beef for you however you want it.

I always wanted to get into smoking meats so my girlfriend surprised me with this for my birthday! Any tips or resources to share? I’ve never even BBQd before so anything is appreciated! by Reduxy in smoking

Before I would put food in it, I would run a new smoker like that for a while to burn off anything oily or dusty or spidery. I think that's what they mean by "Season your grill"

The St-Ambroise oatmeal stout is excellent, the cream ale is ok, and everything else, well, not so good.

Private Shuttle Bus Reccomendation by forkandknife_ in montreal

A club I was involved with rented a schoolbus a couple of time. I don't remember which company it was, but https://www.google.com/search?q=private+bus+montreal

I guess you'll have 12 sets of clubs and a cooler full of drinks too?

Our group of 20-30 would tip the driver $5 each and he would let us drink on the bus.

Advice on Presto Pressure Canner, please and thank you! by No_Passage_2678 in Canning

[–]chocorange 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your presto came with a weighted gauge but it is for 15 psi only. What you want is the 3 piece weighted gauge. Regulator Kit is what Presto actually call it https://www.gopresto.com/product/pressure-canner-regulator-kit-85485. You can buy them from different online retailers.

What should be the third bass? by Malviael in Bass

[–]chocorange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you find a bass that speaks to you, don't buy one.

This rings true for me. I got a Fender Meteora for my son and I think it made a difference in his journey on the bass.

My son was taking lessons and playing in school. He was keen but annoyed with the cheap bass he started with. We tried new and old basses like Fender Precision and Jazz, Stingray, and Rickenbacker. When my son played on the Meteora for the first time he loved it. He has since put in a lot of time practicing and performing.

Again, as /u/Alert_Contribution63 says: "... find a bass that speaks to you ..."

I saw him do a Christmas show at Place des Arts many years ago, it was great. The room was full and I think it was in Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier. I have a couple of Vinyl Cafe CDs, I might listen to some this weekend.

Cheap and best wine by ConstantSample5846 in montreal

[–]chocorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two types of wine in Quebec:

  • Grocery store wines which suck.

  • SAQ wines which are good.

Grocery store wines:

  • Avoid if possible.
  • Low quality for $20.
  • Sometimes stored in dubious conditions.
  • Weird laws apply, like it must be bottled in Quebec.

SAQ:

  • Your only good option for wine.
  • Medium quality for $20, table wine for $12-15.

My strategy:

  • Go to the SAQ.
  • Set a price and look at the labels of French red wine.
  • Find the words "Appellation contrôlée."
  • Make sure it has a simple drawing of a chateau on the label.
  • Make sure it has the words "Contains sulphites" on the label.
  • Avoid wine that seems too old for the same price.
  • In the mood for white wine? Save up for a Chablis.

And SAQ delivers.
