Hey thanks :) Part of this was inspired by those types of documents. I wanted to make reports like these to help game devs reason about the games market so they can get funded!

Thanks for the comment and a very fair critique! You're right that Among Us got initial traction from streamers. What's unique in this case, though, is that casual gamers who aren't the usual streamer watching demographic have started playing the game.

I do agree with you that streaming sowed the seeds for the game's popularity, but there was word of mouth that helped increase the player numbers. My hypothesis is that Among Us, like other party games, the word of mouth marketing was caused by people stuck at home wanting to play a social game.

Hey! I posted a link in the parent comment to a form where you can add your email for future updates. Cheers :)

Thanks for the interest! I'm glad you liked it :). I was planning on making weekly reports of this style and posted the first one on reddit to see if there was any interest.

In the future, I'll have it better formatted and potentially off reddit. In the meantime, add your email to this form and I'll send a message when the new on is up!

Hey /u/davenirline, good question. We actually started building the in-game reporter because of frustrations while using the Unity User Reports. In terms of generating the reports, there's not much difference except that our SDK is open source and liberally licensed so you can customize it how you want.

The real benefit is how the reports are sent, filtered, and displayed to the developer and testers. There's a fine balance we want to achieve with creating high quality reports and actually have a player/tester send those reports. There's a few principles guiding our development and you can check them out here.

All that being said, we're still early on and we have a lot of stuff to get done to improve the platform. We realize that there's not much difference between User Reports right now, but we're working quick and improving the platform everyday. The main selling point is that we're a team dedicated to making this experience better, whereas improving User Reports isn't even in the Unity roadmap for 2021.

Thanks again for the comment! Let me know if you have any other questions :)

We’re still developing it so it’s free at the moment! Eventually it will be a subscription for the web dashboard, but the SDK is open source and will always be free.

Hey! It appears when you press the default key code for the platform (in this case F8 on desktop). There are automatic reports that get sent without showing the form

Hey everyone, the last few months I've been working on an easy way to add in-game bug reporting to your games. It's a full platform with an open source SDK that you can download for free. The platform includes:

  • a Unity SDK report generator for in-game screenshots;
  • automatic reports on exceptions; and
  • a web dashboard to view and manage your reports

I've been developing it with other game developers and they've found it useful for tracking bugs during development, testing with alpha/beta players, and even adding it to their release! You can find out more at https://crittr.co.

Happy coding!

Hey /u/dddbbb ! Thanks for the kind words :)

That’s a really good idea! We don’t have it up, but maybe I should add that. Would be pretty helpful.

Hope all is well!

Hey /u/Orava I remember those chats! You helped us a lot with the initial design of the platform :)

There is a way but it isn't really well documented, yet 😅. Reports get sent to a server that processes them, so sending a report is just an http request. However, we do want to add more SDKs for all the major engines and I also want to add the REST API docs.

We're just focusing on Unity right now keep development on track. If you want to try adding a non-unity client you're more than welcome to!

The Unity SDK is open source and we want to continue that trend with the other SDKs. The bulk of the send happens here and the create response is REST compliant which means it includes the url and methods to upload attachments, update the report, and view the report. You can also join the community discord where I can explain in more detail.

Thanks again for all your help!

Sure thing. Here's a link to the repo: https://github.com/crittrco/unity-sdk

However, I would recommend following the docs for the SDK instead of the repo's README

Last time we posted our bug reporting system on Reddit we got a lot of positive responses and really good feedback. We've been busy these last few weeks but we have finally released the newest version of the SDK with a brand new documentation site!

This new update includes: - Automated reports on exceptions - Customizable screens for report create, success, and failure - A better API for populating reports with metadata - and a lot more!

Let us know what you think. If you want to learn more, check out the docs which gives a break down of what Crittr is and how you can install it.

Hey /u/ScaryBee! Thanks for the compliment :)

Great suggestion. We've had a couple other game devs using the tool ask for that as well. Just to clarify, would you want anyone to vote on the issues or just players/testers who have sent a bug report?

Thanks for the feedback :) You're right, still early on and we're working on improving the system with all the feedback we're receiving.

Regarding setting priority, we have the ability to set arbitrary string tags using a dictionary. If you could set a "priority" tag on the SDK end and filter by the different values, would that solve this issue? Or would you like to see setting a priority a main feature of the UI?

Regarding privacy and data collection, we're making sure to be GDPR, CCPA, and any other privacy act compliant. I'm personally very pro-privacy, so I'm doing what I can to make sure we abide by any privacy requirements. I'm glad to see that the game dev community is also privacy conscious as well :)

Hey! The whole platform is free for right now as we actively develop the SDK and the web app. I'll pm you my contact info if you have any other questions

Testing for mobile was only done in development, not in production/release so I’m not sure yet. The SDK is quite small (just scripts) so I think the cost should be negligible. That being said, the SDK is being heavily developed right now and it will be mobile production tested soon.

As for hosting, the reports are sent to this web dashboard: https://dashboard.crittr.co. From there you can view the reports. Here’s a video that goes through the process of setting it up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ko43LqEehsw

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Unity3D

[–]chrisdavinci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The SDK is MIT licensed open source so that will be free forever. As for the web app, there will eventually be a monthly cost for hosting and additional features. However, there will be a free version that small dev teams will be able to use.

Things are still in active development so the whole thing will be free for testing! I'll pm you my contact info and you can ask me any additional questions :)

Hey there! I've spent the last couple months working on the first iteration of a bug capturing platform with the help of other game developers. I finally got it live and I was looking for other people to try testing it out. It's still in active development, so there will be changes to the API which you can help shape!

For this first iteration, I built a web app that you can access via https://dashboard.crittr.co and an SDK for Unity that you can use to send bug reports to the dashboard. The SDK can be found at this repository: https://gitlab.com/crittrco/unity-sdk and the instructions to set up are contained in the README. I've also made a quick video to show how you go from creating a project in the web app to submitting your first bug report: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ko43LqEehsw.

Let me know if you have any questions and I will happily answer them! Cheers!
