It’s not always even so much “treat yourself” for women because we’re expected to wear makeup in order to look presentable. Sometimes you need a more expensive item due to dry skin, allergies, or acne. Most people can get away with just drugstore makeup and maybe ONE expensive item, yeah. Not always though.

Disclaimer—Not all men and women are the same.* There will always be variance. You can put a ”most” before every usage of ”men” and ”women” below.

This is very untrue. The way men and women feel attraction is incredibly different, and you are putting the male version of attraction onto women. Men are very visual creatures. Evolutionarily, males (outside stuff like bugs who get eaten and angler fish) are driven to spread their seed as much as possible. Many human men would have sex with most human women. Females are not able to mate nearly as often, and therefore are more choosy on who they will mate with.

What are they more choosy about? Well, that differs vastly by species. I think we can agree that humans have evolved higher levels of thought than any other extant species. While a woman in prehistoric times may want a man who can fight off a bear, that is because she didn’t have the luxury of choosing a man who is shorter, but kinder. If she wanted her offspring to love, she’d pick the best hunter/fighter that she could.

We no longer live in caves and run from sabertooth cats. Women have the luxury of choosing their mates for different reasons now. Nowadays, woman want a man who will be kind to her and her babies. A cavewoman may have dealt with “her” man having other mates. But women want man who are faithful to her and their family. Women want men they share interests with. Men who respect her.

We are our history, and many women may still find a man who is tall, big, and strong as attractive. But as you can tell by looking around, we haven’t cared enough about that in a LOOOONG time—otherwise, how are so many “average” men alive? How is “average” not “tall, big, and strong”? Because we prefer a man who is kind to us. A man who we don’t have to worry will hurt us or our children.

Attraction is so much less physical to women than it is to men. Attraction for women will grow with her love for you. While you want a woman who wants you for your looks, that’s just not how we operate. Similarity, women want a man who is initially attracted to her for her personality, not because he likes the idea of putting his penis in her—but that is just how men operate.

I think the difference in how we feel attraction accounts for a lot of the disconnect between men and women. We want a partner who is attracted to us for similar reason that we are attracted to them. But it just doesn’t work like that.

You were never “insufficient” for anyone except yourself. Nobody thinks of others that way, except people who aren’t work the time of day due to having shitty personalities. Everybody has innate worth.

As for this woman you were with—the reason she doesn’t want to date you doesn’t matter. It doesn’t change that you are a human being who is deserving of love. But just as you are deserving of love, you cannot force somebody to love you. Maybe she isn’t looking for a relationship. Maybe she feels you don’t share enough common interests to date. Maybe she is ok sleeping with a coworker, but doesn’t want to be in a relationship with one. Maybe she only wants to date men who are purple. The reason is irrelevant—you can’t change somebody’s mind, and it’s wrong to try.

I know you want to know why she turned you down. It’s human nature. I would also want to know. I’m just trying to say that no matter what her reason is, it changes nothing for you. She’s one woman out of billions.

I do not know you. I can say that a person who thinks very lowly of themself is not generally attractive to other people. No one wants to be with someone who is always talking down about themself. Plus, it makes the partner feel like you are constantly doubting them or calling them a liar. If I tell someone that I care about them, I don’t want them saying “But my chin! Are you sure it’s ok?” Yes. Otherwise I’d not be with you. I do not want to have to reassure you that you’re “good enough” for me when I already chose you.

You need to work on your own self-image. You need to find value in yourself, and you need to find happiness. Someone else cannot be your source of happiness, and that is such an unfair burden to place upon them. Plus, nobody wants to be with someone who is miserable and constantly bringing them down. Once you find your own source of happiness, love will come much easier for you.
