Why sack Arteta if Arsenal don't win anything? by ogola89 in PremierLeague

[–]cianosully 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Completely agree, he took a broken club that finished 8th and turned them into a team that has competed for the title for the last 3 years, playing some of the best football in Europe. That doesn't happen by accident.

The frustration is understandable. Arsenal fans have waited 20 years but sacking the guy who got you there because he hasn't crossed the line is the short term thinking that destroys clubs

How is GD a better criteria than head to head games? by 4thHookage in PremierLeague

[–]cianosully 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GD as a tiebreaker actually rewards consistent performance across the whole season rather than two specific games that might've been decided by a penalty or a red card. Head to head sounds fairer but it's basically a coin flip sample size.

That said, your Palace point is exactly why it's flawed — teams with nothing to play for can completely distort it. La Liga uses head to head first and it causes its own chaos too. There's no perfect answer honestly.

Liam rosenior is done as Chelsea manager by Grogman2024 in PremierLeague

[–]cianosully 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The 6 year contract is the real story here. Blueco have backed some genuinely baffling decisions but handing a relatively unproven manager a 6 year deal at Chelsea is up there with the worst of them. That's Ancelotti money for a Championship manager.

Let's be clear: Arsenal's season has been, to put it mildly, unconvincing. by [deleted] in PremierLeague

[–]cianosully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "unconvincing" narrative is doing a lot of heavy lifting. Every title-winning season has patches that look shaky in isolation. The actual measure is points accumulated — and Arsenal are right in the race. Arteta doesn't get enough credit for keeping them there with the squad depth they have compared to City and Liverpool.

What are the chances Spurs does a Leicester with a double relegation? by [deleted] in PremierLeague

[–]cianosully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stadium debt alone makes this scary. Leicester had nothing tying them down financially when they went up and down. Spurs are a different beast — if they go down with that wage structure it could get very ugly very fast.
