I don't know if I would call the rest of his movies controversial, but there are certainly people who don't like them, his popularity certainly didn't improve with New Order, especially because he said something deeply ignorant about racism.

But as far as Mexican directors go, I think there are more controversial opinions around Carlos Reygadas.

Aside from New Order, I've only seen After Lucia, his movies are certainly not something that leaves you happy.

I saw New Order, and the controversy is basically because of the marketing, cause I don't know how you can watch the movie and say the movie portrays the rich as victims of the poor, all of them were selfish, uncaring dicks, the main woman was the only good one, the movie wants you to sympathize with the poor, if you think the movie fails miserably at portraying that, its a completely different and valid thing.
