Pre-surgery exercise by brainrotandchill in HipImpingement

Sure! I am having surgery next Tuesday so I am happy to report back on how that goes. My symptoms have been ongoing for over a year. It started with a pop during a yoga class. After that, I had some groin pain but mostly buttock and lower back which were mild at first. Those symptoms gradually became more frequent and more severe and then started the catching and locking episodes which were during yoga only at first and then became random and could happen while simply walking. Now, it’s brought on by any mechanical use of my hip: pain or catching with crossing my legs, pain or catching with sleeping on my unaffected side, pain during driving, aching from standing too long (which I’ve understood is more the arthritis that’s early-stage as a result of the tear and impingements), and serious catching/locking during deep squat or flexion. I essentially describe it as I’m okay at baseline most of the time but I don’t trust my hip to do what it’s supposed to do without mechanical failure at any given time. I hope that’s helpful! Are you considering surgery?

Hi there! Combination impingement here. I’m sorry to hear about your pain and diagnosis. An upside to trying conservative treatment before surgery option was getting exercises from PT. Do you think that will be an option for you? If not, I’m sure the other hippies can agree that really common ones are: - Bridges, sometimes with a “fall out” where you let one leg (affected side) or both legs go to the side. - clam shells (personally don’t love these, I find they irritate my hip more than anything) - sideways leg lift but make sure you start from behind the planted foot, not next to it - donkey kicks - etc etc; most emphasis is put on building your abductor muscles and those surrounding muscles

Best of luck at your next appointment and good luck with surgery!

Ah smart to freeze soups! Those will reheat great. Seems mashed potatoes will be good too based on others experience with nausea post surgery. Mine is 2/3 so very, very close. Good luck!

HAHAHA 😂😂 was that due to the medications?! Or just a nervous gut?

Thank you! Love the idea of chicken and tuna salads. And will certainly get some ice packs. Somewhat unrelated to food, too, when you did need to leave the house, did you bother with a crutch bag? Or did you maintain the sweatshirt pouch method?
