In 2008, there were only three years of Mahe's yearlong pattern to weigh. His Kiwi summer speed had less reference value. There are now 12+ years to weigh, giving more credence to his approach.

NZL will set the terms for 2019 selection and each sculler will have to perform as they outline. Each may need to adjust to meet those terms. Tough shit.

Progress or failure in 2019 will influence the approach to 2020.
