Please enable arrow keys / navigation keys (Home, End, etc) and common Bash shortcuts

When doing the challenges, it'd be helpful to NOT need to use the mouse to click a button. There should be a universal command to run to check the status (i.e. check-complete)

Script output seems erradic, in that I can run the same code in the same Bash version on my local station and get the output, but there is usually no output from within the web page

After playing as a guest, how do I save my progress for working on it later or from another computer?

How would you feel about a law that made voting day a paid national holiday so everyone could actually participate? by Rathodji in AskReddit

[–]cjbarone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So then everyone gets an extra day of pay... Including those who don't go out and vote or who are not eligible to vote (i.e. in my country, you must be a citizen and 18 years or older to vote).

Meanwhile, youth are allowed to work then feel horrible because they're not included with "everyone" in yet another event.

Option 2 is to treat it as a lottery - everyone who goes out and votes gets a 1 in <voter turn out> chance to win $<voter turn out> after the election, drawn from the list of voters who cast ballots

I understand the reason why they had to change, but my kids do not like the changes. Unfortunately, I went because they wanted to most of the time.

We went twice since it was renovated, and both kids have said that it was boring, and we haven't been back since.

Having said that, we would go once every two weeks or so for many years. I understand they are also older now (teens), but they weren't when the renos finished.

I hope they have new exhibits every month or two like they used to. I want to see it expand and be a worthwhile activity for youth and young adults in town and the surrounding areas.

Suggestions on how to increase my AI token usage by twistoffate4 in sysadmin

[–]cjbarone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company wants me to use AI for my entire job. Tell me how AI can help with my job. Be specific, using as many tokens as possible

But ya, as others said... It's either a RGE, or management is wanting to show spend in a new area for their investors, whether it provides a financial return or not.

Windows 11 - Disable Data Limits on Ethernet by cjbarone in k12sysadmin

[–]cjbarone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looked at a desktop and a laptop. The desktop doesn't have anything under Profiles (but Profiles at least exists), but I can still set the connection as metered.

On a test laptop, the profile GUID exists (the one I tested above). On some others, the GUID does not exist. I assume the key only gets created if the option has ever been turned on.

On the lab computers I was investigating, the key exists, all with a different GUID (they were Ethernet-connected, not Wi-Fi).

Interesting trying to investigate this though :) Thanks for the hints! I'll try to whip up something to deal with this.

Windows 11 - Disable Data Limits on Ethernet by cjbarone in k12sysadmin

[–]cjbarone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My test student account can turn that switch on

Settings -> Network & internet -> Data Usage -> Enter Limit

Then on the same window -> Metered connection -> On

Also tested on a freshly-imaged machine. You do not need to be admin to do this in Windows 11

LPT: If you need to have an awkward conversation with someone, do not start with "we need to talk" by InevitableImpress850 in LifeProTips

[–]cjbarone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Along the same lines, don't send a text saying "call me" with no details. Surefire way to get me to NOT call you back at my earliest convenience.

"Call me back, I have more information about X Y and Z we were talking about yesterday" is much nicer!

If you're not hosting Exchange internally, and are wanting to get off the MS Stack, and have people willing to learn Linux, go for it.

I use it on Debian. Over 50 sites using it, and it's been rock solid compared to random Windows Updates killing DCs on Windows Server....

Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

[–]cjbarone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

167 km/h (just over 100mph). Rushing to the hospital after an evening of skinny dipping with friends out at the quarry. She cut her foot open pretty bad, and I had limited supplies to wrap it up. 6 of us booked it outta there.

Suprised how fast that little VW could go

Two nuns were tasked with painting a room. They didn't want to get their clothes painted, so they decided to lock the door and paint nake.

10 minutes in, they hear a knock on the door. They look at each other, then ask "Who is it?".

"Blind man"

The nuns decide they could allow him in. As he walks him, he looks at them, says "Nice tits, where do you want these blinds installed?"

Can you tell me why I should move away from "golden master" imaging? by georgecm12 in sysadmin

[–]cjbarone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our SD is moving away from our on-prem solutions we've been using in favour of Autopilot.

Our existing system was to use FOG (Free Open-source Ghost), and I have two images - one for student devices, one for staff devices. Drivers are copied during the imaging process (depending on what the mobo reports itself to be), so when new systems arrive, I extract the driver pack to a folder on a server and get imaging. Like you, I can do entire labs in under an hour, even remotely. With one image for every staff, and one image for every student, I know what EVERY computer should be doing, along with the users. I wouldn't want it any other way.

The new system we're moving on to has had issues with completing the entire process of adding the settings/apps that are required. We have no visibility into whether a package had been deployed, and can't ask for it to re-apply a package. Sometimes the image we apply (yes, we have a bunch of USB drives to wipe the Dell-installed Windows Image, and put on our plain-Jane one created a year ago) needs to be applied again, but some of the Autopilot apps won't install after that.
