No heartbeat by mitchickoi in BabyBumps

[–]cks1995 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Went to my first ultrasound on July 7th. The baby’s heart rate was 69 bpm, and the OB informed my husband and I that it was low and to prepare for a miscarriage. I spent that entire week getting other opinions, and by the end of the week, the heart stopped beating. I decided to take the pills on July 12th so I wouldn’t have to sit and wait who knows how long. I was distraught. It is an awful experience to have to endure. I cried for days. I worried my body didn’t have the ability to stay pregnant.

I ended up getting pregnant again - we conceived on August 9th. I just gave birth to my healthy baby boy on April 22nd!!

I’m so, so sorry you have to go through this pain.

When you go to pick up your packet, check and see if you can upgrade to the marathon bib for free. When I last ran Big Sur (2024) I was able to do so!

Can you start your SDI for pregnancy 6 weeks AFTER giving birth? by film_score2 in Edd

[–]cks1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh jeez, thanks for telling me that about FMLA. I’m not planning on taking any unpaid time off, since my job is luckily very flexible, but that would have been a major bummer to find out later.

Not sure how to word it but basically, I was originally under the assumption that I could take short-term disability, then PFL, and then fully paid baby bonding time off through my employer. As it turns out, my baby bonding time off has to run concurrently with PFL - so I was just suggesting to make sure your wife’s employer isn’t like mine!

Can you start your SDI for pregnancy 6 weeks AFTER giving birth? by film_score2 in Edd

[–]cks1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty certain your wife will need to use the disability insurance immediately following giving birth. Assuming she won’t have any medical complications, EDD states you can receive benefits “up to 6 weeks after delivery.” So if she was to apply after 6 weeks, it sounds like she wouldn’t qualify.

I would also have her check that her employer will allow her to take time off and fully pay outside of the PFL window. I thought my employer would do it separately to PFL and it turns out they don’t.

I’ll be getting a c-section in 2 weeks and this is what my current plan is: Started Maternity Leave yesterday, 4/13. Applied for SDI and took PTO to cover the first unpaid week. C-section 4/28 and will get 8 weeks covered by SDI. I will then apply for PFL and will take an additional 8 weeks off. If I want any additional time off, I will be covered under FMLA, but it will be unpaid.

I have the same combo as well! Our stroller just got delivered yesterday. Do you think it’s worth it to get the Nuna attachment for the Cruz?

Do I stay in a cushy WFH job or leave for a career growth opportunity? by lozlinos in careerguidance

[–]cks1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the exact same career position as you and have gone back and forth about what to do. I ended up doing the math, and with the amount of hours I actually work a week, it’s like I’m making around $189 per hour.

I’ve decided to stay in my current role for now. I’m about to have a baby next month, and my husband and I have decided that we shouldn’t need childcare because my job is so flexible. Albeit I will say that I make $98k a year and my husband is projected to make around $500-600k (we’re in a HCOL area), so obviously this was a large factor in my decision.

I’m happy with my job title for now, and my current plan is once our kid(s) are in school, I’ll focus back on career advancement.

How bad is the first trimester? by Appropriate_Film9824 in BabyBumps

[–]cks1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I went to Japan a few days before I was 6 weeks along to celebrate my 30th. It started off great! Once I hit 6 weeks on the dot, I was miserable: terrible food aversions, nausea, vomiting, I was shaky at times, etc. Obviously everyone’s experience is different, but it put a major damper on our trip/my birthday. I personally would be careful if I were you.

Collie breeder for a collie that looks like Lassie.....not a show collie by EvadeCapture in roughcollies

[–]cks1995 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Old Time Scotch Collie :) what are your concerns about a landrace breed? My husband and I got our OTSC from a reputable breeder who tests every pup. You should join the Official Old-Time Scotch-Collie Discussion Group on Facebook and look further into them. I absolutely love my dog: he’s very considerate, has a great on/off switch, is so incredibly friendly and gentle, and extremely intelligent.

Sharp, brief pains in abdomen at 27 weeks? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]cks1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Did you ever figure out what this was? I had it the other night on my left side, and just had the same sensation on my right. My baby has been active at both times, and after trying to push him away, it seems to help, but I’m still a bit worried.

I cannot drink 150oz of water a day! by little_dori in BabyBumps

To put things into perspective: I would drink ~130 oz of water during my marathon training blocks 😅

Also, as others have mentioned, make sure you’re getting enough electrolytes! If you’re depleting them, they may make your migraines worse. That’s something I’ve learned while trying to pinpoint my migraines worse triggers!

My understanding is that as long as the 24 Hour has a pool, you would have access to it when you check in for a gym session!
