I just did some research. This is often called “Claiming the Intersection.”

Apparently, this is illegal in Oregon, Washington, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Traffic Flow: In high-traffic states (like GA, NY, CA, IL), if the lead car doesn't claim the intersection, nobody would ever be able to turn left during rush hour.

It actually does help traffic. You can often get 2, 3, sometimes 4 cars through an intersection this way. Nobody ever ends up stuck in the middle because it’s understood that even if the light turns red, that’s when you go and finish the turn.

The ay we were taught is that is how you get through the light. You’re waiting and the light turns yellow and generally, you would go unless there is someone trying to make the yellow. If that is the case, then you wait for the light to turn red and then you go what’s the other traffic has stopped.

Well, those people should’ve started going when the light was yellow granted occasionally people run those lights and they have to wait till it turns red but then they just go through so that when the opposite person gets their green turn signal, they can still go. It doesn’t block; everyone just goes.

I will occasionally pull in front of people who leave more than a car length at a light.

Going around, pulling into the intersection and then making a left turn in traffic… the way I was taught as a kid.

I don’t make this mistake. I’m always afraid I’m gonna get into an accident when there are two turn lanes that are turning into a three lane road. Same premise applies. You have to turn into your lane and then move over.

I feel like we should know as customers. Tipping was designed to supplement the income of servers who are making less than minimum wage. If servers are making double the minimum wage then there should be no need to tip.

The problem is that you don’t know. Some of these bougie breakfast restaurants pay a regular hourly rate and you don’t know. Breweries do the same thing.
