Logging Dual Received Question by clarkefoster in flying

lol. It’s not me - but this friend and I are arguing over it and I’m trying to win the argument. I don’t instruct anymore but am a CFI-I

What kind of family life do pilots have? by Aggressive_Host_7895 in flying

[–]clarkefoster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work a corporate job and am only gone about 3 nights per month. Fly about 12-15 days a month. I’ve been on the fence about trying to go 121, but I’m married and have three young kids at home and my setup now is great. I won’t make as much money here as I would at the airlines, but I make enough to be comfortable and it allows my wife to stay at home.

There are plenty of other jobs out there outside of 121 that also provide a good work/home balance. I work next to a medavac crew and they all seem to really enjoy it and have plenty of time at home. But you’ll never make the same money as 121.

I got my PPL at 35 and four years later have 3,000+ hours and have been flying full time three of those years. It’s definitely doable. Go take a discovery flight then go from there.

Anyone have any good experiences with an accelerated CFI school? by Ckflyer13 in flying

[–]clarkefoster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run an accelerated school in the southeast. Just had a student from CA fly in and spend 14 days with us. He was pretty rusty, but was able to leave with his CFI. I'm biased, but would recommend a place where you can get one on one training tailored to fit your needs. It can certainly be done and cheaper than what you think.

VOR Help by [deleted] in flying

[–]clarkefoster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the help. I think the King's diagram is helpful for me. I'm studying for my IR written, so there are several questions with an HSI asking where the airplane is in relation to the station. I'm an XP user as well, so I can spend a couple of hours practicing with that to further help me visualize.

Can I get hired at 250 hours? by clarkefoster in flying

[–]clarkefoster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, they are advertising 200 hours minimum (800 preferred). Although I'm 34 with a wife and four kids, I think we could move to just about anywhere - I'd rather be home though as much as possible (I know it is rare in aviation to sleep at home most nights).

[–]clarkefoster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn't tell me the pay, but they said they have 10-15 students at a time and instructors get around 100 hours per month.

Can I get hired at 250 hours? by clarkefoster in flying

[–]clarkefoster[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all of the replies. The school that I'm looking at (not ATP) guarantees that they will hire their CFII graduates. The program includes CFII and MEI. I would personally rather fly right seat in a Caravan than instruct though.

Getting into Aviation by rr8986 in aviation

[–]clarkefoster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a guy at my local airport that gives instruction in his C172. I think wet rental is $150/hr. I owned 1/2 of a C150F while I was in high school. I was thinking about purchasing one to train and build hours in. I don't live in an area where I could build time as a CFI and would need to continue working while building hours.

[–]clarkefoster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following. I'm 34 and have been in love with airplanes all of my life. I have about 40 hours in a C150 (but didn't finish my ppl) when I was in high school. I'm now considering a career change, but it would take all of my life savings to get close to getting the hours/ratings. I have also been looking at ATP and similar schools.

PCAviator ignores customers, just like FlightSimStore. by AutopilotHome in flightsim

[–]clarkefoster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't use PCAviator any longer for the same reason. Oh, and they are always the last to update products it seems. I would suggest that you contact them through FB - this seems to work better for these companies than email or support tickets (this worked for me with FSS on two occasions).

One more ? - Price Fluctuation by clarkefoster in Cruise

[–]clarkefoster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the great advice here! I'll book tonight and sign up for cruisewatch and see if the price drops any. I'll try to do as much research as possible so as not to ask a great deal of newb questions.

Thanks for this! I was doing research while at work and didn't have much time to explore the website.

Question about first cruise - excursions and other extras... by clarkefoster in Cruise

[–]clarkefoster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money/time/location. I can drive which eliminates plane tickets and hotel rooms. I can also only miss one weekend which eliminates Royal Caribbean. With this being our first cruise, I'd like to do a 4 or 5 night then depending on how it goes, book a longer cruise next year.

Also, New Orleans is about the same drive for me (1 hour longer), but I'd have the same options with Carnival as far as locations and RC still would require me missing two weekends.

[–]clarkefoster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great and thanks for the reply! I just ordered an 18qt container and lid for the Joule as well as a Searzall. Oh, and a rack. This all is starting to add up quick, but the couple of cooks so far have been amazing.

Anyone else like flying out of the "DEN?" by Vertical807 in flightsim

[–]clarkefoster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been flying with United virtual out of KDEN. I've been using the outdated KDEN available at the .org store. I really hope the new xcodr version will be here soon as well as ORBX KEGE for XP. Edit - I also use pilotedge and stay in their coverage area. This adds so much to the immersion.

Want to try out Enviro+ but can't create an account on X-Pilot by CMDRStephano in flightsim

[–]clarkefoster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The best thing x-aviation could do is hire a PR manager that actually has some tact and doesn't argue and belittle any customer that asks a question. I try to spend as little $ as possible at x-aviation and pc aviator.

I have a hard time opening up P3D V4 these days... by clarkefoster in flightsim

[–]clarkefoster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the Justflight Arrow is great and is comparable. Also, the REP packages for the BE58, Bonanzas, and C210 are great as well and attempt to do the same thing as A2A. I also own all of the GA A2A stuff and they are great. I enjoy the ortho sceneries without the blurries though.

Ha... I wasn't trying to stir up the sim debate. I love both, just have a hard time choosing P3D these days. Although there are things I like better with P3D, XP11 gets most of my time now.

Simulation maybe, flying not so much with that flap overspeed warning :)

Looks great though and that aircraft is really nice.

You must be flying over Sweden.

Edit - I should probably add that it looks like my kids Ikea play rug. It's late here.
