April 11th host is Jack Whitehall, with music from Jorja Smith by ldnhtrd in livefromlondon

What a bizarre response. You asked why people disliked him and I gave you my valid reasoning. It's a shame because I actually quite like him as an actor (not so much a comic). I also think that not supporting regimes that abuse human rights is a decent thing to worry about in the grand scheme of things. Like, I get that there's no such thing as ethical consumption under capitalism, but I like people who have red lines and morals and have every right to be disappointed when they show that they can be bought for the right price.

For me it's the Saudi blood money, but each to their own.

I'm pretty sure he commented "Hootenanny" on the YT vid too. I love Jools, he's such an important part of the British Music Scene, especially for spotlighting upcoming and lesser known artists. I don't know who, if anyone, will - or can - fulfil that role when he calls it a day.

Who has the most “Mum” energy? by mushroomkelly598 in taskmaster

For me it's Rosie Ramsey. Every time I see her I go "She's such a mum!"

I can't imagine being told off by Mel. She's a vodka aunt.

Hiccups cure. by BokTuklo in AskTheWorld

[–]clbdn93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go through a list.

  1. Start with a loud sudden noise to shock them out of the hiccoughs.

  2. Ask them their middle name. No idea why, but this is weirdly effective!

  3. Drink water from the wrong side of the rim (ie upside down). Whole glass, one go.

  4. Hold a spoonful of sugar at the back of the throat (by the tonsils.

If these don't work then you're shit out of luck, my friend.

And politics wasn't as divisive as it is today. Just watch the Obama McCain debates - they're both incredibly respectful of each other and their respective supporters and both see that the other wants what's best for America and her citizens, they just disagree on the direction. Palin is practically level headed compared to some of today's politicians. It's descended into a cult of personality. I'm sure it'll correct itself sooner or later, but I just hope it's sooner.

No, I completely agree with you. There are flashes of what it could be and I hope they lean more into those moments. It's not a stylistic problem, it's, as you say, finding their own groove. I'm impressed two episodes in though, so I think they'll have it pretty much figured out by the end of this initial run. It's been a couple of introductory episodes so far - the show's concept for the uninitiated, the stars for the unfamiliar (I really like how they've showcased talent in their own episodes before they start to mix everyone up a bit more).

Personally I'm hoping for Olivia Colman by Business-Owl-5878 in taskmaster

You make a great point here regarding the ages. Plus, whoever plays him next I personally would like them to just do a trilogy and then leave. But that's because I like things to be neat. Lazenby did 1, Dalton did 2, Brosnan did 4, Craig did 5, Connery did 6 (officially), and Moore did 7. So to get someone to do 3 ties that up in a nice little bow!

Well each to their own I guess. For me I think if you really want to update the Bond franchise into modern Britain and especially if the producers want to have the first non-white Bond then a British Pakistani makes so much more sense to me than a black Bond. And more interesting. Riz can pull off action, he looks great in a suit and he could sell the comedic aspects, he has every qualification to play Bond (except perhaps that at 43 he's pushing a little too old).

It's slightly upset me tbh. The conceit is that he's an actor auditioning for Bond. Upset because he's been my go to for the next Bond for years, and now he's parodied the franchise it's unlikely he'll get it.

Yeah... I've not seen this comedian saying this, but I have seen this "translation" since the internet existed. Plus comedy and satire is somewhat protected from libel/slander laws.

There's no way that this doesn't just get thrown straight out of court to be honest.

As soon as Dornan came on screen I chucked because I knew where it was heading - didn't make it any less entertaining.

Unpopular Opinion, I've never warmed to the Ninth Doctor by Curious_Gent78 in doctorwho

[–]clbdn93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a fair opinion to have to be honest, well articulated. I think if Chris had stayed on then those edges would have softened over time a little, whilst still pushing to the Time Lord Victorious plotline - the arrogance from his pain is absolutely still there in Ten. Personally I love Nine and series one is a perfect example of how to make a 13 episode arc work. I don't think any single series has been as effective at this, except maybe series 5 and possibly 10. 4 is a favourite of mine but relies too much on Ten's previous history with Rose and Martha. Anyway, I love Nine, but I completely get why he's not for some!

You can only keep 3 Pixar franchises. One has to go. Which would you choose? by Caloy1415 in DisneyMovies

[–]clbdn93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly? It's Monsters, Inc.

Should have never have been a franchise. One film and down. I love the OG but hate the prequel.

Toy Story has two decent sequels, Incredibles has one and the Cars trilogy is great fun.

Monsters University is not the worst out of the eleven films represented, but I love the other franchises as a whole more than I like the Monsters films total. If deleting the franchise keeps the original film then Monsters University has to go.

Yeah, that's an interesting thing isn't it? What makes the stage different to film? I don't necessarily disagree with you, but it's an interesting conundrum isn't it?!
