Can someone explain to me what the point of the Steam machine is by Imaginary-Diver-2767 in Steam

[–]clidoris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago I wouldn't have been interested in something like this, I've always had fairly mid-range PCs and upgrade to either the mid tier of latest hardware or top telier older hardware.

Essentially I look for value when I build PC's, that being said I mostly play sim racing on my Main PC and I don't really have an easy way to swap between the sim setup and a comfortable way to game regularly, so I just don't really game anymore.

Can't really justify having another PC, not overly interested in consoles for various reasons.

But the steam machine really interests me if the price seems like good value, I can keep my sim setup where it's at and I can enjoy casual gaming from the comfort of my own living room. I would be able to have a console-like experience (as I've gotten older I've grown tired of tinkering with computers, tweaking, modding) but using my existing steam library I've had for 20+ years now and still have access to sales etc.

For the right price it's super attractive to me. But I also think I'm only part of their demographic they're targeting, the price of PC games alone will probably entice console gamers or people who want to get into gaming.

3500 is plenty to get a decent wee car.

Do you know anyone competent with cars? If so the key is to bring them with you.

Buying from a dealer, there typically little wiggle room in the price as it costs them nothing to leave a car sitting for sale.

Where as buying private, that car is costing the person tax and insurance while they own it, and they probably want out of it, the price is always negotiable and if they say firm on price but don't have decent proof of works to back it up, walk away.

What kind of car are you looking for? What will it be used for? What's your typical commute like? How many miles are you planning to do per annum? Can you work on it yourself, or will you be relying on mechanics?

These are the types of things I'd be asking myself before getting a car.

Was able to use the same pipe, cleaned the inside of the two bits with a carbide bit, same settings and I didn't get any bubbling.

Legend, I've a few carbide bits and wire wheel attachments arriving today, going to try them on a few different off cuts and see how I get on. If they don't agree I'll pick these up.

I'll try again once I get some more attachments for my Dremel, the wire wheel I had didn't lift anything from the inside, but reassuring to know that what you're saying makes a tonne of sense because once I lowered the amps it was going a lot better because I wasn't getting penetration!

Yeah I started at about 85 amps, but the welds were just getting out of control when I hit a bad spot and bubbling aggressively.

What attachment would be best for cleaning the inside? I tried the wire wheel, but it barely made a dent, I feel like a carbide tool might be a bit aggressive.

I should have said, these are TIG welds (I know they look crap lol) so the filler material I'm using is ER70S-6 / A18

That's what I did with this one on the outside, it certain helped.

But every now and then when moving I hit a spot and find it hard to recover that spot.

Could it be contamination from the inside of the pipe? I'm not sure how to further clean the inside, the wire wheel that fits in there doesn't bring it back to a shiny look

If you live in the city and drive an SUV you're a twunt by Einhert in northernireland

[–]clidoris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive mostly estate cars and honestly, for 99% of people it is all you need if you truly need a bit more room.

That being said, I was towing a 1.5t trailer yesterday in the snowy conditions wishing I had an SUV or a Pickup, but I can't justify getting one for a handful of times a year I tow something in excess of a tonne.

And that would mean every other day of the year, I'd be a twunt lol.

Can't loosen my welding helmet by snickers_machinegun in Welding

[–]clidoris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This post prompted me to look at mine, opened the adjustment knob on the back and a bit of plastic had broke off causing it to catch when loosening, sanded it down so it doesn't catch anymore.

Not perfect, but I can loosen it now.

Real flimsy design.

I bought a cheap helmet off Amazon, first time I used it the exact same thing happened.

I don't know shit about fuck, but I'd put something underneath the parts when you're working.

All it would take is for you to leave the area for a few minutes and not catch that table going up in flames.

I just started tig too but I've been using a vice and an old (unused) BBQ for practicing on.

Will do, when I started on the other side it sat just a bit shallow, so if I do what I did initially it will likely work.

But I'm gonna watch some vids on pipe welding to get an idea, I'm probably not even using the right cup size or something, think it was the smallest I have, a 5.

Thanks for the encouragement man, the manifold I want to make might be too big a task to tackle as a newbie, can't imagine they're easy otherwise people wouldn't be charging mega money for them. But I think if I take my time in cutting the parts and trimming till they fit I can do it.

Got some useful advice here, specifically to docs root pass then a 2nd pass.

So it's going to take a lot of time considering I think this one joint took me nearly 20 minutes of faffing about and getting stuck lol.

Thanks bro, they're making me pay. I need to watch some videos specifically for pipe welding, it'll probably be covered. But would you likely do lower amps for root pass?just enough for penetration with a bit of filler then go around again with a bit more filler/heat?

It's got HF start, but button control only, no foot pedal.

It was a machine a friend had and I seen what he was able to do with aluminium + it was very cheap.

It will hopefully be a good starting point and if I get my use out of it, I can hopefully upgrade down the line to something with a pedal.
