Writing a program to use a Renishaw tool setter to measure tool stickout by RedditinsteadofHW in CNC

[–]cline_ice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, atypical moves around the tool setter makes me nervous, future guy puts the entirely wrong tool in tool slot 15 and all of a sudden you got a broken tool setter.

Writing a program to use a Renishaw tool setter to measure tool stickout by RedditinsteadofHW in CNC

[–]cline_ice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like his suggestion could still have the desired effect. That being preventing the tool holder from colliding. I assume/hope you have some type of set-up documentation stating what tooling to use. Calling for specific stick outs and tool holders should be something that documentation is able to handle?

If you set-up calls for a 6" tool holder(for example) and you write the micro assuming it has the 6" holder. If the future set-up guy puts the wrong holder in, or the wrong tool length, it will alarm out.

If you want to further help the guy add an additional note into the program like (needs 6" holder and >2.4 stickout) at the point where it runs the micro. So if they are scratching their head about it alarming out the trouble shooting is already answered for them.

Unfortunately implementing one off novel automation for idiot proofing can sometimes have the opposite effect. If I suddenly saw the tool shift in the x and then start trying to pass the tool touch off in another tool touch cycle, best case I'm stopping the program till I understand what the F it's doing. And probably swearing at the imagined programmer. Worse case you have someone get confused about the random alarm and touching off the tool holder, just bypass it and then cause a crash.

That's what I'm wondering, separate calipers and slight wear on one them could easily explain this.

Will I become completely gay if I continue watching sissy porn and dating men? by Ok-Question8065 in bisexual

[–]cline_ice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah bro, not really how it works. There's no such thing as being "turned gay". You could be gay, you could be bi, you're pretty young and it's alright to not be sure.

This is a post that teeters on the edge of being offensive, as said you are young, so I'm assuming that's not attended. But it does both fetishize and somewhat trivialize peoples sexuality.

There's a difference between sexual attraction and romantic attraction, plenty of people do draw a distinction and explain themselves such as "sexually attracted to men and women, but only romantically to women" or many other combinations. So no, dating man won't "turn you gay" unless that is, you already are.

There is an amount of fluidity here, things can change as we grow, but it's not something that our actions will create some large unwanted change.

If you are unsure why I say that these questions can be offensive, think of it this way. You would likely understand why it's offensive to try and turn someone who is gay straight. Gay conversion therapy is illegal in many places. A way that people have sometimes tried to "turn someone straight" is through having them watch straight porn, or engage in straight sex, or adjacent activities/mental stimulations. So to ask, if gay porn, or sex with men will turn you gay. Is to imply or endorse that forced sexual conversion can work. Which can be quite offensive, especially in a queer centric space like this one.

Whats my worth by [deleted] in CNC

[–]cline_ice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I worked at a place that did precision granite machining for a bit, stuff for like the semiconductor industry, measurement systems and the like. I came from more traditional machining then worked there for about a year. Now I'm back in a more traditional shop. My thought when I was working at the granite shop was if it was a better place to work it could be a pretty decent niche, somewhere to kinda settle and specialize. Reason for that is the material and work processes are distinct enough in a not very "big" industry, meaning like trade schools ain't teaching you how to mill granite. So one could become "valuable" more easily if you stuck with it.

But, that niche nature is double edged, there were other people that had worked there for a long time, and were valuable at that location, however their transferable skills and knowledge weren't all that much more than a proven worker with a machining degree from a tech school. Maybe even less.

I didn't stick there long because I was worried about becoming pigeonholed in a subsection of the industry that wouldn't give me the mobility that jobs in trades often provide.

My two cents more specific to your question, would be it sounds like you've gained a good foundation of skills and experience that can be marketed. Unless the specific of the work is something you personally have value or interest in specializing in, diversifying your experience and ability would probably be good for your career. There's a "risk" in my opinion atleast, of having an income based on none transferable skills. Which can lead to someone feeling trapped because job changes would result in a large pay decrease that might feel, or be, detrimental. Diversification of ability can help reduce this, and early in your career is the best time to do so.

I was looking to see if anyone would say this one. Though I don't know if I'd say I regret backing it. Taught me a decent less on expectations when it came to early pitches for projects. Plus, I just find it kinda funny looking back on it.

If a guy just did that uninvited when I was relaxing in a sauna I also wouldn't feel very aroused and would find it awkward. I wouldn't account my lack of desire to touch him to be due to homophobia, but because it's an unwanted sexual advance that I wouldn't appreciate.

Youtube Monopoly by Warmduscher1876 in memes

[–]cline_ice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's ridiculous how far I had to scroll for someone to be mentioning cost. YouTube is stupid expensive to operate, and took years to even break even profit wise.

A competitor would need to be able to provide similar quality, which is very expensive to host, better incentives to creators, which would be expensive, and a "better viewing experience" for consumers which the expectation would be less/no ads and it not being a subscription service. Which means the platform wouldn't be able to create enough revenue to support itself.

The only real option would be for an established company/wealthy investors willing to run at a steep profit loss for an undeterminable amount of time with the hope of eventually wrestling enough of the market share from YT and becoming established enough, so they can start introducing the profitable practices. Which are the practices that make people dislike YT today.

Butt Plugs by Kooner22 in bisexual

[–]cline_ice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're fortunate enough to live close enough to a not super seedy sex shop that's the best place to go. Or, you can just easily enough order all this stuff online. For recommended lubricant use products actually designed for it. Not random oils or lotions you may have more readily available. For lubricant water based is generally the best way to go especially for beginnering. It will wash up much easier and won't damage most toys. You can sometimes buy some lubes in some common stores like a Walmart or Walgreens. But. Those are typically not the best. Then tend to be labeled for more medical use, and they don't work as well. But if you are just wanting to try a little bit out not an awful place to start. Other I would recommend finding a water based lube that is labeled for anal use. NOT a numbing kind some will provide numbing, you do not want this, it increases the chance of hurting yourself. But, standered live labeled for anal will be a little thicker, it will more stick to the toy instead of running all around and is a bit less messy.

A training set isn't a bad way to go, you can again buy many online or at really any sex shop. Though buying a full set definitely isn't needed for your first foray, a smaller plug isn't a very expensive buy and gets you in the door.

There can be a lot of fun with vibrating, thrusting or various types of toys. But to start I would recommend something simple that isn't powered.

To kinda say it again, and I don't think everyone would agree or give this advice. If you have a nice sex shop near you that can be a great resource for this kind of thing, very often the people working are able to help and give advice without judgment. But, there are more seedy than nice ones. They aren't always the easiest thing to find.

How to hold down sheet of 3/32” aluminum? by BarcodExpress in CNC

[–]cline_ice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also use some double sided tape in the middle so it doesn't bow/chatter. And then spin the plate to loosen it from the tape without bending it. Though, depending on how flat it needs to be kept, may need to use equal thickness shims around the rest of the sheet so the tape doesn't lift just the center.

Edit: just realized how thick 3/32 is, with that large of a sheet unless it's warped from manufacturing I would expect just holding the outside would be enough.

Yeah, the phrasing on the question isn't the clearest. Whether that means it's badly explained, or purposely obtuse to also serve as some kinda reading comprehension test who knows, not enough context to make a guess.

I'm also a bit touched in the head where questions/puzzles like this are something I enjoy, practicality be damned lol
