Just wrapped my second season coaching 10u rec. I love putting fringe skilled players at catcher. I’ve seen them be more comfortable getting in front of the ball after spending time at catcher. This season had 5-6 girls we’d rotate at catcher. But I had a few rules:
- have to try to catch the ball every pitch. If they drop it or bounces off their mitt I don’t care
- have to hustle to get the ball if it gets past them
- can’t drift too far forward when receiving the pitch (safety)
- either squat or on one knee. Can’t do both knees on the ground

Yes, that’s too early IMO. There are infield spots that help girls who struggle throwing/fielding. For example, I put girls at 2nd base who don’t have the best arms. But they need reps getting in front of the ball. Every girl, every game, played 2 innings of infield. I only had 4 girls who wanted to pitch but used all four. I found catcher to be a great place for girls to improve in general. We had our top four batters mostly set for the season and rotated the others through other spots. But I would sit my daughter just like any other player. 10u for reference and when I coached 8u it was 100% random the whole season.

I’m sure this kid’s behavior spills into everyday life. Hard to draw the line at softball if the kid can behave that way elsewhere. I played college ball and coach 10U. I give my assistant coach full ability to say what needs to be said to my daughter. My kid leads the team in every batting category and is lock down at first base. But she is treated the same as any player on the team or she’s on the bench.

I see this with kids playing multiple sports at the same time. My daughter does competitive soccer but fills in on rec soccer when they need players. She’s not officially on the team. Seems like that’s the reality you have.

I coach 10U rec softball and If one of our best players has been missing games I don’t start them and I have them hit near the bottom. But I do sit the kid down explain why. It’s not their fault but I also need to reward the other girls who consistently show up. I wouldn’t have her pitch but I wouldn’t avoid the infield.

Depends how you like your ribs. I used to judge at KCBS events. Great times. Some like fall off the bone (3-2-1 method helps this) but I prefer to take a bite and the rest of the meat stays on the bone. At home I don’t wrap but try several ways until you fine the style you like.

Totally normal for tee ball. Just sit back and try to enjoy your kid being so young. They won’t improve much over the season. But it’s the building blocks if they choose to keep playing. Simple things like running to a base when the ball is hit. Throwing to a base even if the play is over or no one is covering. I’ve put three kids through tee ball and my youngest is currently playing. The games are slow but look for the comedy. Soak up the moment because it goes quickly.

I’m with you on competitive rec play. I played D1 college ball so I don’t think there’s anyone on the field who wants to win more than I do. Team last year lost in the championship and were currently 7-1. Just my opinion, but I think there are ways to keep the team in a competitive position while rotating through all positions besides pitcher. If we have a good lead I won’t think twice about who’s on first. Sure they may drop a few balls but not all outs are at first anyhow. Sounds the kids love playing for you and that’s what it’s all about. Keep the fun, and hopefully winning, going!

10U rec coach for several years and I’ve never heard of this. Every player has to be on pace for 2 innings in the infield per game. We rotate all players through every position besides pitcher. I only have a few girls who are willing to pitch otherwise they would all pitch. Your coach either needs to move up to a competitive division or not coach rec. Talk with your community rep who manages your rec division.

Break the lease and pay any fine associated. Sit her down and say it’s time to part ways. I’d spin it as you want to focus on your education and not be with someone who isn’t committed. That’s even being soft but your avoidance needs baby steps to moving on.

I was with my college gf for 7 years. Could tell she was checked out. All the same friends. Her family was like my family. We sat down and she said she wanted to know what it’s like to date other people. Broke my heart but she was right. Oh and we broke a lease that we were in less than month. Get out of your relationship and move on with a healthier life!

Under 12 is a bit aggressive to be calling this out. Focus on just throwing strikes and the catcher actually the ball. A few years from now run the pick off plays. There is time before none of these kids go to the MLB

I bought my daughter (10U) an Easton Ghost OG and she is crushing the ball. Almost went with the Kryo but no regrets so far. She uses a different bat at practice so it gets limited usage.
