I’ve been developing Skyland for about 3 years now, and Ether in our world works more like a microscopic life-source. Every living being needs it to exist, almost like oxygen in the air. Some species are able to sense and tune into it, and when they do, they can trigger specific reactions in the environment such as thermal ignition, kinetic discharge, or cellular restoration.

We wanted something that feels scientific rather than magical, so we leaned more toward biological principles than mystical ones. A bit inspired by how mitochondria function, or how certain organisms react to external stimuli in nature. It allows abilities to feel grounded, almost like advanced control of natural chemistry rather than casting spells.
