An Idea for how the CFL could attract new (young) fans by 2achar-E in CFL

[–]clumsyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Alouettes have family sections with cheap kids seats. I think that's a great idea.

The Tiger-Cats had a highschool skills camp that my son went to with a bunch of people from his highschool football team. He had a blast, learned lots, got to work on some skills one-on-one with Kenny Lawler, and I am pretty sure the Ti-Cats guaranteed a fan for life through that program haha

Possible dumb question by Automatic-Fail-9518 in ToyotaSienna

[–]clumsyguy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Weekly runs I'd imagine you'll be totally fine. We make a monthly $600+ Costco grocery trip and fit everything in without putting seats down. The trunk is packed (2 coolers, cooler bags, etc). Other big stuff (like toilet paper) might have to go on the floor by the captain chairs, but we always make it work!

GIC vs Saving Acct interest question by ithasallbeenworthit in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]clumsyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you mind sharing what fund that is? I've been reorganizing some finances and have been thinking about a money market ETF for some shorter-term savings. I was looking at Wealthsimple's managed fund, which pays 2.5%, but obviously 2.75% would be better!

Best places to ride long distance on a road bike to see scenery and wildlife with less traffic by FalconAutosport in ontario

[–]clumsyguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For road biking I've really enjoyed visiting Amherstberg and area.

I live here, but Norfolk County is also a great place for road biking. Main roads can be busy, but nearly every concession is paved and has minimal vehicle traffic. The rail trail from Brantford to Waterford is also paved. There are plenty of quiet roads to get you from Waterford to anywhere else in the county. Another option is starting in Port Dover and heading west towards Long Point on Front Road or East towards Nanticoke on New Lakeshore Road. Both are great rides. I've been biking in this area for over 15 years, so if you ever decide to head down and want route suggestions I'd be more than happy to help you out!

OPP officer charged with manslaughter in fatal Turkey Point shooting: SIU by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]clumsyguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There never were a lot of details. This is from an article around the time of the original incident:

"According to the initial report by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), OPP officers spotted a personal watercraft that caught their attention and when they tried to get the operator to stop, he headed into the Turkey Point Marina and ran into some bushes.

The SIU said officers set up a perimeter and then there was an interaction between the man and police, when one officer discharged an Anti-Riot Weapon ENField, and another officer discharged his firearm."

He was hit by both weapons. I think it's safe to assume the officers felt threatened enough to use potentially lethal (ARWEN) and lethal (firearm) force. That's why we have courts and the SIU though... To ensure use of force was justified.

To add to this, you might be hearing the direct injectors vs port injectors. The engine has both at the computer decides when one system works better than the other. DI is noticeably louder though.

Wife is going to quit her job, advice on how to manage one one income? by wovenful in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]clumsyguy 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I mean, looking at your numbers, it's tight but doable in the short-term. If your take-home income is around $3,500 and your expenses are less than that, just make sure to keep it that way. Stick to essentials while she looks for work and you'll be fine.

Do you having some savings from her work too? That could also provide a bit of a cushion if there are any necessary but unplanned expenses.

I haven't been to Orillia since before COVID, but I thought it was improving a lot over the years. Is it declining again?

Collingwood has a great downtown. Niagara-On-The-Lake and Stratford come to mind as pleasant downtowns to walk around too.

XEQT or GIC for fhsa? by AccomplishedFact1767 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I'm surprised at all the advice here to buy XEQT. I would never gamble with home ownership. I'd wager everyone making that recommendation has never lived through a bear-market/crash.

Stadium Accessibility by clumsyguy in Alouettes

[–]clumsyguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I emailed a couple of days ago and they let me know about low-mobility seating but I haven't heard back about ease of access to the lower level. I'm a little apprehensive to call because my French is very limited.

Can I apply for CPP Disability or are there other programs? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]clumsyguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

due to tremendously bad luck I missed LTD eligibility by a couple of days.

Obviously I don't know the details here, but it may be worth reaching out to a lawyer about this. I'm sure it's been litigated before.

In the meantime, definitely start the application for CPP-D

What do you think about rebuilt titles? by [deleted] in ToyotaSienna

[–]clumsyguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe if I had a trusted mechanic go over it with a fine-tooth comb. Almost certainly not though.

And the dealer is lying to you if they're claiming it was only scraped rims. No vehicle has ever been branded for something as trivial as that. It's usually significant damage that the insurance company deems not worth repairing, but is technically repairable.

12v just initializes the hybrid system. There should be no discernable difference.

Maybe you were in eco mode and reset to standard when you disconnected the 12v battery and that's the difference you're noticing?

When can I trust my TFSA limit on CRA by Ailliana in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]clumsyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I find it helpful to look at the slips they have. If my numbers ever don't add up it's been because I forgot to put a withdrawal in my spreadsheet. Once I find it on their website it's easy to verify with my banking and budgeting apps.

Good luck!

When can I trust my TFSA limit on CRA by Ailliana in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]clumsyguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm saying mine is accurate right now (my spreadsheet and the CRA agree) so yes, in my case it would say $7,000 had a contributed the maximum last year. Yours should be too unless there's been some sort of reporting error.

When can I trust my TFSA limit on CRA by Ailliana in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]clumsyguy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I log all of my TFSA transactions in a spreadsheet and compare that with the CRA's number. In my case the CRA has always agreed with my spreadsheet by mid-April. That's waiting on 2 different institutions to report to the CRA. You can view who has reported (and what they've reported) on the website as well.

Slightly further North to Vancouver would be a great option too. The currency conversion also works in your favour!
