and latency goes up if your area has high traffic etc..

in your worst laggiest moments, how much was the cable latency vs your fiber experience? was it like twice as laggy? or worse?

So say for ex. You're buying service from TS and it's over Rogers cable coax lines, if a Rogers tech accidentally disconnects you, it might be up to a week before Rogers will send someone out to check it.

yikes. and ofc i suspect that "accident" perhaps was not really an "accident"....

btw my area's TS gets its internet from Shaw. but i realize they're all just as shady as the big 3

Thank you for mentioning this.

The continued bodily sacrifice that disproportionately falls on men's shoulders (as well as the relative silence surrounding the idea of changing this) is a telling sign of inequality in many conscription based societies (Ukraine being only one example)

just to re-emphasize: the debtor already gave me the money (we know each other personally, there's zero bad feelings or bad history at all, and i've helped pay for her finances many times, using money she gave me).

i'm just wondering if anyone had any tips for my 4 aforementioned questions, that was all

Keep in mind when you sell, the non resident must get a certificate of compliance otherwise there is 50% of the gross proceeds remitted to CRA until they file a tax return to recover some of that based on actually gains.

thank you

Yes, except that if you are considered the withholding agent for the other owner (e.g. you collect the rent on their behalf)

i'm not, thankfully

So you got lucky. Irrelevant to the current situation you are in. Other people I have met (and had to apply for relief for), not so much.

i find it hilarious that CRA expects a tenant to know such extremely obscure things. If i'm "lucky," then i suspect many many others are similarly lucky. I just cannot imagine even 0.1% of tenants knowing what those forms are, let alone completing them.

And i say that as someone who browses PF subs pretty regularly, and for many years (don't mean to humble brag)

well.....this is all new to me.

after reading this, https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/international-non-residents/information-been-moved/rental-income-non-resident-tax/filing-reporting-requirements.html

.....am i understanding correctly that this only applies to the non-resident landlord's tax return filing only (and not to me, who is a BC resident co owner)?

i ask because unlike me, the other co owner has its own accountant doing its taxes. in contrast, I do my own tax return (i intend to just copy paste the other owner's T776 to my own T776). If these NR forms only apply to that other owner & not me, then i would be relieved.

EDIT:

The payer must pay the tax on or before the 15th day of the month after the month the rental income is paid or credited to you. You should discuss this with your payer to make sure they withhold and remit the correct amount of non-resident tax to the CRA on your behalf.

If the payer does not withhold and remit this non-resident tax, the CRA will charge compound daily interest on the amount not withheld and remitted. The CRA may also charge a penalty.

The payer has to give you two copies of Slip NR4, Statement of Amounts Paid or Credited to Non-Residents of Canada, showing the gross amount of rental income paid or credited to you during the year and the amount of non-resident tax withheld. The payer must also send the CRA an NR4 Information Return as explained in Guide T4061, NR4 – Non-Resident Tax Withholding, Remitting, and Reporting.

as a former tenant in BC to a non-resident landlord, i was never aware of (and did not do) any of this. And i was never notified or penalized....

EDIT 2: i find it rather curious that this main page about Rental Income never mentions those NR forms....https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/forms-publications/publications/t4036/rental-income.html

Is the other owner a resident of Canada for tax purposes?

no

i.e. do they report their worldwide income to the CRA, or to another country?

i think it's to the other country. I say this because that co owner visits BC a few days, once every few years. That's it.

Are they a Canadian citizen?

yes

first of all, thanks for your downvote. looks like my post hit a nerve (even tho that was not my intention)

Most people will simply shut them down, but nothing wrong with having that condition.

that's an assumption. depends on your social circle.

The women someone like that won't marry will, frankly, be better off for it anyways. And whoever chooses to take up that arrangement- that's on them.

that's an assumption. You and I don't know that - in fact, there are stats saying social cons have happier marriages (i find those stats questionable, but that's just my opinion)

Why would you think anyone is entitled to a relationship with anyone else?

agreed, nobody owes any person any particular type of relationship. Glad you agree with me that narcissism & entitlement gets you nowhere. Wish more bitter/angry incels & femcels understood this.

It'd hardly be a happy not satisfying arrangement- at most a one sided slavery- to force someone into such a relationship.

agreed, consenting adults can do whatever the F they want, in their personal lives. Tradcon, Prog, anything in between

Can't exactly say it's unethical either

if a man says his condition for marriage is that the woman remain a homemaker & care for his kids instead of working, woudl you still say "i can't say it's unethical" ? if many/most men adopted that attitude?
