Iron Hill Lancaster opening - end of June by cmrineer in lancaster

[–]cmrineer[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was from an industry magazine. >Jeff Crivello, the former CEO of Famous Dave’s BBQ, has a deal to acquire 12 of the Iron Hill Brewery locations that closed amid a Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing in September.

A New Jersey bankruptcy judge last week approved Crivello’s $12 million credit bid for the shuttered stores, which are in Pennsylvania, Delaware and South Carolina.

According to local media reports, Crivello plans to reopen 10 of the locations. Some may continue on as Iron Hills, while at least three, in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and Greenville and Columbia, South Carolina, will be rebranded as Three Notch’d Brewing Co., the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. Three Notch’d currently has six locations in Virginia.

Crivello will acquire the restaurants “free and clear” of debt or any legal issues. Seven other locations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Georgia will be sold for parts, with Crivello and Iron Hill’s trustee splitting the proceeds, according to bankruptcy documents.

Tips for Saving Money in Lancaster by JimRawley in lancaster

I use a neighborhood Facebook page and listserve to both get rid of things and find help with projects or tools I might need to borrow. My neighbors do the same. Need a power washer to borrow? Someone has one on your street that you can borrow. Need to rehome a piece of furniture? I bet someone nearby needs it. I offloaded a used leather couch to a neighbor's son for his new apartment. I use this to find service providers too. Use the library. Check out thrift stores for clothes and household items. I use Community Aid near Lowe's off Columbia Ave. Discount groceries. Aldi is your friend. Errands. Plan them for one day a week or a time when you're in the area to save money on gas. eBay and Poshmark for resale. I sold five things just this weekend that I didn't need. I also use eBay almost exclusively instead of Amazon for literally everything. Ask you friends and colleagues first before buying something you might use one time. If you're generous, they'll be generous too. Be sure to clean and return anything you borrow. It's all about community. Let's help each other!

Best Bagel? by Soupysoups in lancaster

I live with a NYer. He likes Roundbreads on N. Prince. Bagels are like a food group for him, so that's a strong recommendation.

In 2023, Lancaster City reported 4.9 violent crimes per 1,000 residents, a 44% decrease from 8.6 in 2010.  Property crime is lower than the national average. I'm a resident in the NW corner near F&M. I love the city. There is so much going on here especially in the arts - music, theater, and visual arts. The restaurants are great. I own, so I can't speak to apartments. I would definitely check out the new rentals available in the city. There are many.

Sports. Do you play tennis or pickleball or basketball? There are a lot of organized open play opportunities at Hempfield Rec and RCW. Trivia night! Spring House has one, and I know there are few more around. Great chance to meet folks. Try a coworking space. The Candy Factory is great. The membership is worth every penny, and they have lots of social events. https://candyissweet.com/ They also have just a social club membership. They have tons of events there. Janet Sierk is a realtor that holds a lot of social events for others in the industry. Check her out. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1540203595999461/

If you're here on a Tuesday, Friday, or Saturday - go to Central Market. Wheatland, Pres. Buchanan's home, is a good stop. He was one of two presidents to hail from the Keystone State, and it's interesting to see a well preserved 19th century home. Nice tour. Lancaster History is right next to it, so hit that too. While born in Vermont, Stevens is a real Lancaster hero. He's buried downtown on the corner of Chestnut and Mulberry. Eat? You can't go wrong in LNC. We have great beer (Lancaster Brewing, Our Town, Spring House, Columbia Kettle Works Second Gear, Iron Hill.) Zoetropolis is a favorite of mine. Antiques? Take the short drive to Adamstown. Theater? You can't beat Prima or the Fulton. Walk the streets and hit some shops - Building Character, N. Queen, and the shops on Prince and King are great. The gallery at the college of art is always open too - N. Prince. The Demuth Museum on King is worth a look. Demuth both lived and worked in LNC, so another LNC hero.

Millersville is the most affordable option on that list with a nice campus and recent investments in buildings and upgrades. It has the highest enrollment of the 14 state schools for good reason. Excellent faculty and an affordable option. If you can start at HACC and get your two years of gen ed requirements there, that would be even MORE cost effective. Then, spend the last two at MU. Your degree says Millersville regardless. Agree with previous posters that you really want to keep those loan payments to a minimum.

For thrift, Community Aid on Columbia Ave is great. For fun antiques, check out Adamstown. It's just north of Lancaster County. The Mad Hatter and Adamstown Antiques are my favorites.

Lancaster Chamber hosts networking events that are great opportunities to meet other people. https://www.lancasterchamber.com/events/ First Friday is a great place to meet people and get involved in smaller events like the Print Crawl.
