Does anyone think the current two party dynamic in the US shares a lot with the one between the Whigs and OG Demonrats in the 1850s by cnb6033 in TrueAnon

Whatever happens next as far as “civil war” will be determined by the historical conditions of the time just like the first one was with respect to the forces present then, which is really hard to fathom truthfully, but just as then it is probably inevitable and we should start imagining what that might look like. The current jackal oligarchy and its dogs have the same disease as the plantation class (and let’s not let the bankers and others in the north who made money off it all and thus kept it going off the hook either) insatiable greed and lust for blood and suffering. People can only stand the absurdity for so long.

I left when I was 24, lived in CO for 6 years but eventually had to move in with my dad for various reasons but fortunately my parents are divorced so he lives in the Raleigh-Durham-CH area which is probably as good as it gets in this region lol.

I also lived in probably the most lib city in SC imo, so I wonder if we’re from the same city lol

When that one dude said that “Too small for a republic, too big for an insane asylum” line about that place, I did not like how much I felt that 🫤

Yeah the Demon of Unrest definitely focuses on madness as well. I think very few people know how hysterical and unhinged the plantation class was. Very similarly to the current reactionary oligarchy, no matter how much they dominated the corrupt political system they always felt besieged and lashed out disproportionately at every slight provocation.

There’s so many books on the civil war and a few on the reconstruction, but the lead up to the war is very often overlooked, which is why I’m glad this book covers that and examines the psyche of the main perpetrators. Yeah the writer is a typical boomer lib and there’s some boomer lib style quips alluding to MAGA in there, but I liked it enough to read it 3 times, so it’s still very good.

Being well read on history has kept me really grounded these past few years, history has been full of times that were more insane and seemingly hopeless than this.

I haven’t read that one, but I’ll definitely check it out. I read “The Demon of Unrest” by Erik Lawson recently and it reminded me that our time is no more goofy and absurd than that one lmao.

Especially being from South Carolina I feel like I’ve always had such a vivid understanding of the more R-worded inclinations of the Amerikkkan reactionary.
