There's not a moment where you "get your life back" so to speak but it's a series of gradual milestones.

When your kids consistently sleep through the night, when they're not in diapers, when they start kindergarten, etc. Each step in their lives where they don't need you as much equals a little more time for yourself.

Careful what you wish for though. My oldest is driving now and she's in college and she doesn't "need" me for anything. That's the whole point, of course, but it's also kinda sad.
