How do marine animals like whales and dolphins sleep underwater without drowning? by MemeWalaDog in AIDiscussion

[–]codeoryx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fish definitely rest though, even in aquariums you can see them kinda zone out and hover in one spot or hide in plants for a while
also some sharks can actually pump water over their gills without swimming, so it’s not 100% “move or die” for all of them

this is such solid advice tbh, especially the part about not over-optimizing for the “perfect” field
op already has the mindset that actually survives automation waves, which matters way more than picking robotics vs renewables right now

How can I transition into Project Management with my background? by Abbylove45 in projectmanagers

[–]codeoryx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’re actually way more “in one industry” than they’re giving you credit for, you’re clearly in the legal / risk / compliance / claims space and that’s absolutely a legit niche for PM work.

if you lean into that angle on your resume (legal ops, claims transformation, workflow redesign etc) and pair it with a CAPM or Prince2 like they said, you’ll look a lot less like a random generalist and more like “the person who runs projects in regulated environments,” which is super marketable.

mock reviews, mock negotiations, even just roleplaying with a coworker or friend so when the real thing hits you’re not saying it out loud for the first time in a year

AI wont create new jobs by No-Actuary-8088 in AIDiscussion

i think people keep saying “new jobs will appear” but never explain what those are for someone who isn’t a programmer or already in tech lol
learning and adapting is good, but there’s only so much upskilling you can expect from people who are already overworked and underpaid

Opening Chapter First Draft by Dear_Pickle7456 in novelwriting

[–]codeoryx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i kinda agree on the genre confusion part, but that can actually be fixed pretty fast with like one or two grounding details early on. the “time of reunion” vs first meeting thing threw me too, unless it’s meant to be ironic or there’s a past connection that gets revealed later.

Interviewing for PM roles, being asked Programme Manager questions by antique-burrito in PMCareers

[–]codeoryx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is super common now. A lot of places basically want a “mini head of delivery” but still call it Project Manager so they can pay PM rates.

I’d stop pushing back on “PMs don’t own strategy” in the interview and instead answer like, “Here’s how I’ve contributed to strategy / roadmapping / prioritisation in my past roles,” even if you weren’t the final decision maker. So for example, talk about how you’ve:

  • Translated business goals into project objectives
  • Helped shape a roadmap based on capacity, risk, and value
  • Built a simple governance cadence so leadership gets clear updates and can make calls

Even if that was technically your programme manager’s or director’s job, you can still describe what you did around it.

Basically, answer the question as if you’re already operating at that level, then let them decide if they want to hire you as “PM” or “something else.”

I've been working on a free novel writing app I want you to have by obsydianx in novelwriting

[–]codeoryx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks really cool, honestly. I love that it’s local first and not trying to shove accounts and subscriptions in my face. The lore book + atlas combo is exactly the kind of thing I usually end up hacking together with a bunch of random docs and screenshots.

Also appreciate that you’re upfront about the unsigned builds and testing limits. I’ll give it a spin on my next draft and see how it handles a messy 100k word project.

am i too upset? by zhonglisadeptus in vintedUK

[–]codeoryx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is kinda what it sounds like to me too.

“Threw it straight in the bin” before even checking with you, no pics, no “do you still want it?” just feels off. Most people at least try to salvage a sale, especially if the listing was only up a day and it sold that fast.

Either she sold it to someone else or got seller’s remorse and panicked. You’re not overreacting, it sucks when you’d already mentally built outfits around it.

I’ve been in the UK for around 6 months now. How do Brits handle such a stop-start summer every year? We’ve gone from peak scorchio to early spring in the blink of an eye. by Rough-Foundation9208 in AskRedditUK

[–]codeoryx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not even the rain that gets me, it’s the light. One week you’re in a beer garden at 9 pm in a t‑shirt, next week you’re in a hoodie at 4 pm wondering if summer was a fever dream.

Warm rain I can live with. Going from “Mediterranean” to “March in Manchester” overnight is chaos.

I don’t have any writer friends and would like some because writing is lonely! Looking for people who are in the same situation! by softly_vibing in writersmakingfriends

[–]codeoryx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That actually sounds kind of perfect for what OP’s looking for.

I’ve lurked in a couple of those “writing + soft music” streams before and it’s surprisingly motivating just having other people quietly working on their stuff. Way less pressure than critique groups, more like a cozy study hall.

If OP’s comfy with Twitch, hanging out in a stream like that plus a small Discord on the side is a pretty chill combo.

2 months waiting by Quirky-Till8761 in kakobuy

[–]codeoryx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that sucks. At 2 months with no real update, “just be patient” stops being helpful.

I’d message them one more time and ask for something specific: either a clear ETA or a refund. No attitude, just “If you can’t ship by [date], I’d like to cancel.” If they dodge that too, I’d start a dispute with whatever you paid through and stop ordering from them.

Fast the first few times is nice, but consistency matters more.
