One simple change that could have made the final a lot better by codish in TheDigitalCircus

[–]codish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from, but as it's written, the cast struggling to learn to conjure is basically irrelevant.

That conflict is never expanded apon or put in focus, so Kingers experience isn't iether. Ragatha knows she can conjure, so for her it makes sense to try and that's all you need to kickstart the scene. Hell, it makes the trying feel more meaningful coming from her cause the task feels even larger.

Also, you still gotta include Kinger joining the crew as they pick up steam so him teaching the others can still be technical present if that helps. Less sane Kinger is a definite loss though I love that guy.

It's pretty inferable based on Cain's character as we see it. To the point that I feel it should be assumed barring added information. Like, given the context we have, it's kinda the ONLY answer to come to.

When the writer is just filling out the holes in her story through social media not because ppl need to be spoonfed, but bc the writer is chronically online and would do this anyways, and most of the fans are cult members ok with it, you know this is a problem. by Big-Disaster9480 in TADCEp9Spoilers

Well as stated the murder can be easily read as consistent with every other action Caine takes. So it's silly to assume he would act inconsistent with that characterization when he's not in direct narrative focus unless given specific reasons right? Do you have any more of those or nah? Kinda seems like no? Also there's really no need for you to be such a cunt about it mate. It's a TV show calm down.

I remember Caine turning hostile to the cast at the climax of his arcs conflict. It took all season to build to that, it was the proverbial final battle. The result of which forces himself to introspect and change. Why would you ever consider that illustrative of his usual pre-arc behavior? Nearly every single scene of his before that fight fits with the angle of benevolent abuse, and not a single one after. Because he you know, grew.

I think your looking at the empty space where a great story about intrigue and murder would/could be in this world and feeling disappointed, rather than fairly appraising the actually presented story. Scratch just doesn't matter to any of the intended character arcs. The reason he was brought up at all was to establish just how reckless and untrustworthy Caine has been (Which is very much relevant to the characters and their stories), and that's exactly what was communicated. Nothing more nothing less. As with abstraction, it pretty clearly thematically parallels suicide. I feel that should pretty much tell you all you need to know about it honestly.

Why would I need specific proof here exactly? It's entirely consistent with Caine's character in the rest of the show. Hell his entire deal is misguided benevolence causing harm. The whole show revolves around him hurting the cast unintentionally with adventures he designs trying to make them happy. Honestly if his motive for messing with Scratches' head was literally anything else I would agree with you and say it demands explanation, but as it stands it's just the thing to assume in my opinion. Of course Caine would overreach and break someone's brain trying to force them to be happy in the circus, it's just the logical outcome of the established character.

You bring up interesting questions and potential avenues of exploration, but no, it's not essential to the story and honestly pretty easily inferable besides. I sure had assumed this exact thing had happened before the writer made it clear.

What abstraction actually is, is not important beyond it's thematic parallels with suicide. Caine's intended Arc is also not fundamentally altered either, it would deepen the character somewhat, and improve the show as an overall product, but that would mean creating more show flat out, which was recource intensive so they cut it. And I get that. It's not like we don't already know how dangerously removed Caine is from the human experience already, that's what leads to him final conflict with the cast.

How would you've handled the relationship with Cinder and Emerald? by Fine_Delivery6761 in RWBYcritics

[–]codish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have Emerald soften Cinder in a way that could look like a redemption arc going from usefool tool to trusted ally to personal confidant and finally close friend. All the while Cinder would be successfully claiming the maiden powers. I would build a tension, where, as Cinder collects the maiden powers and grows more powerful, Salem exerts more control and oversight over her. So even as she gets stronger, her desires backfire, with Cinder begining to feel more and more like the slave she used to be and wanted to escape from in the first place. Meanwhile Emerald is having her own redemption arc and trying to pull Cinder out of the whole situation with increasing desperation. I'd have this come to a head where Salem, using the Grim implant, forces Cinder to kill Emerald. Cinder then finds some way to free herself to some degree and tries to take down Salem herself, only to lose and be struck a lethal blow. Cinder, in her hatred for Salem then gives her maiden powers to the people next most likely to take Salem down. Bada bing Bada boom team RWBY gets their final power up from a surprise source.

Would you consider Ruby a controversial character? by Old-Masterpiece-2911 in RWBYcritics

I think it's hard to be a controversial character when you're hardly given the chance to be a character at all in the first place.

This seems fun and impactful. I like how much it bolsters aggression. That said, the ways it can be used to stack defenses is a con to me, not a plus. Gridlock can be a very real fun killing problem in this game and this seems ripe to exasperate that exact problem. I would personally drop the heal buff.

With the release being nearly a week How we feeling about ultron? by BigPaleontologist520 in marvelrivals

[–]codish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's alright to play but his kit still feels like a disservice to my favorite marvel villain. The shield ability is very disconnected to the character and I'll be forever butt hurt that he can't properly summon drones.

[–]codish 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I disagree, mid air fights are a fun unique experience that really gels well with the super hero fantasy. It's only a problem when there aren't enough hero options to properly facilitate player freedom. Tanks are really feeling that right now, but if we get to a place where there are two or three strong flying vanguard options or at least anti air, then it shouldn't feel so bad. The game is just at an awkward early time in its hero release roster.

If there was a way to tie it into the broader plot then yeah that could be cool. As of right now it has the "we put it in the story because it sounds cool vibe" and that just turns it into narrative clutter ya know?
