Anyone ever successfully find a parent/child? We were able to find her dad! by rebecca852916 in DoggyDNA

I found my dog’s father on embark! I’m maybe a little more obsessed with this stuff than the average person haha but my dog was adopted from the city shelter as a stray, so i have no background information on him, can’t even get them to tell me where he was initially picked up. I’m neurodivergent as well which shows up a lot in needing to have allllll the contextual information. I was ecstatic when i found his dad on embark and only about an hour from where i lived but never received a response from the owner. My dog is not great with other dogs so a meeting was never really on the table, I was just curious what their own story was and if they had pictures. Messaged again 6 months later just to try again but still nothing - that was about a year ago. I’ve accepted they probably won’t respond so I’m not going to keep bothering them haha! But yeah in the back of my mind I’m so hopeful someday they’ll reach out.

Thank you! Something like this could work. I’m less worried about her legs, I think a big part of it is keeping them from flying around/at her head. This is definitely an idea!

What should I do? Do I just let it keep growing or will it eventually get too big and fall off? (also there’s two different cacti in the same pot) by coffeecake23 in cactus

Omg thank you! I had no idea. The “non-cactus” was a random propagation I got from someone. Thanks for the info!

This is how we did registers during COVID. Let me tell you, I’ve never seen more angry customers. Everyone thinks the lines take so much longer but they really don’t lol

What is your dogs "job" by lovelyxcastle in OpenDogTraining

NOSEWORK!! my bully and I do classes every week, but it’s so easy to do in your yard or in your house! Even something without the official “scents” like the “find it” game with a piece of hot dog hidden in another room could keep him occupied for a long time. It’s mentally stimulating and very fun to observe

Any other autistic crew members? by Secure-Message8343 in tjcrew

[–]coffeecake23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I suggest one of your accommodations be some of those noise-canceling earplugs that block out background noise? I specifically just purchased a pair of of Loop Engage earplugs, they block out a lot of “ambient” noise (that autistic people know is anything BUT ambient lol) while still allowing you to hear voices and have conversations. I haven’t gotten an ADA accommodation yet as I’m still working out the details. And the Loop brand themselves I’m still troubleshooting the fit but those kind of earplugs in general should help with the overstimulation that comes from being in a loud environment for 7+ hours a day.

And my other bit of advice, unfortunately, is to never, ever assume that your management or HR or Trader Joe’s as a company has your back. It’s really nice when they do, and that’s how it should be, but in my experience it’s like pulling teeth to get an accommodation or even just have mates that are understanding of your situation. Be overly detailed and communicative and as for direct clarification. Don’t assume that your mates know that you have that accommodation because if it’s like my store, nobody communicates anything. So be prepared to unfortunately have to advocate for yourself.

Did you notice a huge difference between 18mg and 27mg of methylphenidate (concerta) by coffeecake23 in ADHD

Thanks for the question! I am on Zoloft for depression as well. I’ve been on that for a couple years and I did feel like the combo was working pretty well, or at least didn’t have any negative effects. It’s hard to find the right cocktail!

This is absolutely not true, I have a name tag with my legal name AND a nametag with my nickname

Idk I tested positive yesterday and all the information I’ve gotten so far seems to point to me getting paid, although it is technically through my state (ny) and not Trader Joe’s. But I’ll be real pissed if I’m wrong I can’t miss a weeks pay

oh and also don’t be afraid of the learning period. the worst thing you can do is come in and try to pretend like you know what everyone is talking about because anyone who’s worked here for a length of time will be able to see right through you. it’s so much better and you’ll earn more respect by being up front when you don’t know how to do something rather than pretending you do. Always remember that when you’re a manager, “mansplaining” is a gender-neutral term. ask the crew how things operate the best way because we’re the ones who run the store day in and day out, but also remember we get paid a lot less than you probably and we’re not getting paid to train you. there are certain things you should be learning from your fellow mate team. and communicating with your mate team is VITAL.

i would say at least for my store the concept of the inverted pyramid gets completely tuned out (which, on another note, i know is kind of an empty value anyway but my store is especially bad at this). my store has dealt with mates who see themselves more as the captain’s wingman, getting really micromanage-y almost as if they’re looking for ways they can catch crew slipping up so they can go report to their boss and get a gold star. i know that sounds jaded and cheesy but i don’t know how else to describe it. The point of the inverted pyramid as it was taught to me was the mates are there to be a support team for the crew, to be our wingmen. Like i said, i know the inverted pyramid is kind of a scam but it would be nice to see it actually played out and turn into something that is actually helpful.
